2014 Nissan NV200 Rolls Out Extended Warranty Coverage

Facing increased competition from the likes of Ford, Chevy and Ram, Nissan is ratcheting up warranty coverage for its current light-duty commercial vans, including the compact 2014 Nissan NV200 and the full-size 2014 NV Passenger and Cargo Vans. The automaker is making the move retroactive, too, so that previously purchased 2014 models also are covered with what it calls "America's best commercial van warranty."

Getting down to the nitty-gritty here, the 2014 Nissan NV200 and friends will benefit from both a 5-year/100,000-mile basic limited warranty and a 5-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty; previously, the basic coverage lasted for 3 years/36,000 miles, and the powertrain protection was for 5 years/60,000 miles. It's also worth noting that, all hyperbole aside, this does give the 2014 Nissan NV200 a notable advantage over those aforementioned rivals. Consider: While the new Ram ProMaster City and Chevy City Express, for example, match Nissan's powertrain protection, both come up a bit short in terms of basic coverage by offering just 3 years/36,000 miles. Which is a bit odd, since the Bowtie brand's entry is essentially a rebadged 2014 Nissan NV200.

As for the current Ford Transit Connect, it currently offers 5 years/60,000 miles of powertrain protection and a 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty.

Said Fred Diaz, senior vice president for Nissan Sales & Marketing and Operations: “While we’re relatively new to the world of commercial vehicles in the U.S., we’ve already proven our mettle with vehicles that endure harsh conditions that passenger cars will never see. This warranty reaffirms our confidence in the quality of our vehicles, as some of the NV 2500 and 3500 models have already accrued 550,000-plus miles of real-world use.”

(Note: The 2014 Nissan NV200 taxi relies on a separate warranty that’s more oriented toward livery customers and serves up 3 years/36,000 miles of basic vehicle coverage and 5 years/150,000 miles of powertrain protection.)
