Concept cars are usually the exclusive territory of auto show concourses. But early consumer feedback to concept cars is valuable, which can sometimes bring a concept car out of hiding even after its big official debut. Thanks to social media, it’s easier to spread the word about a public appearance of one of these desirable preproduction vehicles. Nissan brought two of its latest concept cars, the IDx Freeflow and the IDx Nismo, to a Cars and Coffee event in Irvine, CA, which is right in Autobytel’s backyard. Giovanny Arroba, a Creative Design Manager for Nissan, chatted with Autobytel about these exciting new concepts that were debuted at the Tokyo Auto Show. The IDx Freeflow and IDx Nismo are both targeted to appeal primarily to the millennial demographic. Design, engineering and product planning teams from Nissan worked together for these forward-thinking cars that also pay their dues to Nissan’s motorsports heritage. Though the IDx Freeflow and IDx Nismo sport compacts might not make it to dealerships in their current form, Nissan’s definitely planning to use a lot from these designs on some upcoming vehicles. And if public perception at Cars and Coffee and other events is positive, these cars just might become part of Nissan’s model lineup after all.
