Nissan Confirms Limited Production of Nissan Juke-R

by Jeffrey N. Ross
May 14, 2012

When Nissan unveiled its GT-R-powered Juke-R Concept in Dubai earlier this year, many automotive enthusiasts voiced off either loving or hating the oddly styled, ridiculously fast crossover, but apparently a few serious buyers have convinced Nissan to build the super sport utility vehicle. The Nissan Juke-R Concept, if you're not familiar, was originally a one-off concept that used the powertrain of a 2010 Nissan GT-R and the body of the Nissan Juke, and Nissan recently confirmed that it is going to build a similar version of the concept in limited production.

Differing from the concept, the production version of the Juke-R will use the underpinnings of a 2012 GT-R which means that the power output of the 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 will be raised significantly from 480 horsepower up to 545 hp to go with an expected top speed of 180 miles per hour. Production figures and price weren't even speculated, but we would expect it to cost well over $100,000 for the custom Juke-R. For those with that kind of cash, Nissan will be taking orders over the next month before production starts.

"The Juke-R was originally intended as a one-off concept to marry two of Nissan's most innovative models. But the reaction we had to the car in Dubai was amazing - people were making offers for the original on the street," Gareth Dunsmore, Marketing Product Manager for the Juke. "With such a strong reaction, and with three genuine offers on the table, we decided we had to make the car a reality. We can't let down enthusiasts who are this keen to add to their collection of cars."

To show off its latest creation, the Juke-R also stars in a short movie based in Dubai going up against a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Gullwing, Lamborghini Gallardo and a Ferrari 458 Italia. While the video has as much authenticity as an episode of the A-Team, it's still a fun way to kill six minutes.

"The Juke-R has become something of a phenomenon and I'm enormously proud of the impact it has had. There will be more news to come on Juke later in the year," Dunsmore added.
