Even though the Nissan NV200 New York Taxi hasn’t gone into service yet, Nissan is already expanding the NV200 Taxi lineup. Shown at the New York Auto Show today, the new Nissan NV200 Mobility NY Taxi fills a crucial role in their taxi lineup. Nissan teamed up with Indiana-based BraunAbility, who is the leader in wheelchair accessible vehicles and wheelchair lifts to help them out on building this new taxi model. The NV200 Mobility NY Taxi looks and acts like the normal NV200 Taxi until the time arises when the Mobility part comes into play. The taxi driver folds and flips the second row seat forward.

From there, the driver opens the wide back doors and pulls out the fold-flat wheelchair ramp, unfolds it, and then loads the passenger inside. To secure the passenger, Nissan and BraunAbility figured out a system of using front and rear tie-down belts, and a lap and shoulder belt. After the passenger has been dropped off, the process is reversed to return the NV200 Mobility NY Taxi back to normal. Nissan says the NV200 Mobility NY Taxi meets or exceeds all Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements for accessibility. The Nissan NV200 Mobility NY Taxi goes into service later this fall.
