Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: Performance and handling
Cons: Nothing in particular bothers me.
Advice: If stealth is what you want, check out the wagon. It's better looking and practical too.Quite surprising power above 3500 rpm. Not much punch off the line unless you abuse the clutch, but from about 20 to 80 mph, hang on! At first the turbo lag was an issue, but now that I've learned how to drive the car, I rarely notice it. Handling was the big surprise. You don't expect a car that looks like this to be such a canyon burner! It takes a set in a corner and just claws it's way around it. This has got to be THE biggest sleeper on the road. This is a fantastic car, and so, so much fun to drive.
Pros: Performance, gas mileage (27mpg highway), AWD
Cons: no standard turbo guage
Advice: I would skip on the carbon fiber trim and get the Turbo boost guage and upgraded stereoThe first time I drove the WRX I was hooked. I remember taking the car out (without the dealer :-), finding the closest backroad, pulling up to an empty 4-way intersection, revving the engine to 5000 rpm's and dropping the clutch while in first gear. The car was explosive! It took off the line like a rocket! All 4 tires squeeking for a split second and then I was gone! I bought it the very next day and have been happy ever since (80k miles later).
Pros: Power and lots of it.. and handling is awesome .. saved my bacon more than once
Cons: uh... the ABS can't do it as well as I can
Advice: Hold on... tight.... grit teeth... smile and laugh hysterically.... OK, now start it upThis is the best all around car I've ever owned (over 30 cars). I feel safe in it because I know the car can do anything I ask of it. Only the Cooper S (1963) could corner better and only the 69 Road Runner was quicker to speed. My wife also loves this car dearly and is not afraid to push it hard. It's wonderful on snow and ice, with fresh rubber, anyway. The ABS is a bit odd, but you do get used to it. All of the complaints I've ever heard about turbo lag and so forth, do not exist with this car. I even like the stereo. The seats are terrific and you can go all day without destroying your lower back. It's got 65,000 miles on it and I have only had a very few minor problems... a window popped off the track and it had a radiator hose go south. Other than that....zip. At this mileage it still blows away the usual Audi's and BMW's. Ho hum...
Pros: the power
Advice: test drive and you will buy. Call more then one dealer for best dealI love this car. It is as good as they say. It very fun to drive.
Pros: Powerful engine, AWD, foglights
Cons: squeeky windows... hot engine...
Advice: change those stock tires for better handlingVery powerful, turbo kicks in at about 3000rpm, thats where all the fun begins. very very smooth ride, excellent handling...
Pros: Thats a tied between the turbo and the all-wheel drive
Advice: Get the wrx manual transmission!!!!!!!!!!!I went to go take a look at the wrx model for my wife.Well.. I drove it (manual) and I fell in love with it.It feels like it grips the road and this thing can get up and go.I had a 2000 ford mustang gt with 4.10 gears and alot of go fast parts.I loved my mustang but within 4 days after driving the wrx.I traded the stang in for the wrx.I absolutely love this car.I truely impressive machine.I also liked the array of standard featues it came with. The all wheel drive and the turbo intercooled engine are the icing on the cake
Pros: Performance, Handling, Seats, engine sound
Cons: Gas mileage, no sunroof, cheap door sound
Advice: Get armrest extension and short-throw shifter, don't get carbon-fiber trimGreat car! Acceleration, handling, ergonomics. Wagon is even better than sedan (more space, the same performance, even better looks). After you learn to use the right gear, it's a rocket. In my opinion the best value overall for cars between $20K and $25K.
