Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: Engine performance and body style
Cons: They should eliminate the 4 cylinder engine and keep the 6 cylinder.
Advice: Buy the 6 cylinder and buy a 4 door. Get the sunroof
I bought my silver 4 door 2006 G6 1 1/2 yrs ago. It had 14,000 miles on it. I'm still in love with it. The 6 cyl engine is super quiet, yet powerful & responsive. The stering is very agile. It has a sunroof that does not leak. A great sounding stereo system. All the power options. A great buy for the money. So far I have not had any problems under the hood. It's been the interior where I've had a few problems. The power drivers seat frame broke. They replaced it. The outside temperature gage on the radio is late on updating the temperature. It'll be 70 outside in the afternoon, and the temperature will read 58 from the morning. Then all of the sudden it will update. The dealer has ordered a whole new radio because the temp gage is built in. I hate that because I dont want to part with the wonderful stereo system that I already know. Other than these two interior problems I have had no mechanical problems with the car. The engine is great. Make sure you get a sunroof and rally wheels. Forget the 4 cylinder. Anybody buying this car should get a 6 cyl.Pros: sporty look
Cons: all the problems
Advice: be leary.............
I bought the 05 pontiac g6 brand new..... at 16,000 miles had to get a NEW TRANSMISSION. Because i bought this vehicle brand new, i babied it. took great care of it. At about 20,000 a thumping started in the steering column, had this fixed 5 times, and it still wasn't fixed. Many problems with rotors... Stereo acted up from time to time. Big Nightmare, I just traded it in last week for a Jeep wrangler Unlimited.....Pros: The look of the interior
Cons: Could only get it up to 260 horses
Advice: Get the at least the GT
Amazing styling. The GT has great handling and acceleration. It comes with 224 horsepower but I got it up to about 260. Definitely a better buy than the toyota.Pros: 4 seat hard top convertible
Cons: Trim items a bit flimsy.
Advice: buy sunglasses.
Caveat: Just picked my convertible up over the weekend, so not a lot of experience to go on. But, I put 350 miles on it over a gorgeous weekend, top down the whole time. What blast. It has room for kids in the back and boy did they love it. A little tight, but we have another, bigger, car for longer family trips. But getting dropped off at school in the convertible made my son's day. The hard top makes it QUIET with the top up. Ride is smooth, good power. There aren't many 4 seater hard top convertibles on the market -- and none in this price range. Yeah, there's a little cheapness to some of the fit and finish itmes -- but that's what makes this so much more affordable than the C70 or the EOS. Highly recommended.Pros: 6 CD-Changer
Cons: Haven't had the car for a year and had regular brake problems; power window problems, new starter, and new steering wheel/column.
Advice: Be sure to get regular service checks; pay attention to car's performance (warnings); and buy extended warranty.
Absolutely loved everything about it! Especially just looking at it for the first time!Pros: handling
Cons: The auto lights that come on during he day
Advice: get the alloy wheels instead of the granny wheelcovers
Make sure you get the aluminum wheels instead of the basic 'granny wheel covers'. I bought silver a 2006 Pontiac G6 four months ago. I was surprised by it's wonderful peformance; the peppy 6 cyl engine, the steering and handling. The monsoon stereo is entertainment in itself. I love to play CDs while I'm in the vehicle. Good buy if you want style and full power options, but dont have a lot of money. This car is the best kept secret. Pontiac could have sold a lot more of these cars, if they had make the alloy aluminum wheels standard. Many G6's on the street, have the basic wheel covers which give the car a granny look. That's why I never noticed the G6 until I saw mine with the fancy aluminum alloy wheels.Pros: The sun roof
Cons: The whole Front end problems.
Advice: Do Not WASTE UR MONEY!!!
Do NOT BUY ONE OF THESE!!! I have had problems since I bought it. I've had the car 1 year and I have had the Rack and Pinion replaced 2 TIMES, the rotaters 2 times, 2 sets of brakes, and 2 sets of tires. I'm not joking. GM will not help me with the car now. It was under warranty when it all started and they act like it is all my fault this continues to happen!! Everyone knows that it takes a lot to brake the rack on the car. All GM offered was they would tow my car if it needed that. I have that on my car insurance. Do NOT BUY THIS CAR. I Love mine but to many problems!!
