Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: Vehicle appearance & appeal.
Cons: Car just begs to be driven.
Advice: Push BMW to give mini its 100,000 mile warranty.AT 80,000 miles car was making a funny noise. Took a while to find cause: bearings on flywheel failed, damaging CVT trans. Even though it should not have happened, it was an expensive repair. Give Mini credit for picking up 60% of the bill, even though car was out of warranty. Other than basic maint. & tires, no other issue. Dealership has been superb.
Pros: The manual transmission.
Cons: Not driving it enough.
Advice: If you aren't sure, test drive it. Your mind will be made up.I have only owned this car for two days, so my quality ratings are just that - two days. This is by far the most fun car I have owned. It is the first imported car I have owned, and I am amazed. This car sticks to the road like glue, has amazing pick up speed for a 4-cylinder engine - for any engine actually, and gets great gas mileage to boot. It's too bad the engineers at Chevrolet/Ford/Chrysler can't get together and come up with a vehicle like this. I'll try and add more as time passes, but this is one amazing car. If you're considering a purchase, go ahead... you won't be disappointed. Oh, I've seen some comments about resale value. Every used Mini I looked at was over $20,000, so I would say they actually have great resale value. If you know how do drive one, I recommend the 6-speed manual!
Pros: Sports shifting
Cons: The Manual needs a little rewrite
Advice: Don't just go to one dealer, get as many quotes as you can, and keep calling in for new shipmentsI am trying to be as unbiased as possible considering I am still quite excited about getting this car. My Dad had an Austin Mini Cooper when I was a teenager and I used to nick it when he was away from time to time. This car has some of that same spirit. It's built great, very solid and the windows adjust when closing the doors to protect them from getting damaged over time, this is part of a pinch protection system. The handling is really the top feature, I live in an area with lots of canyons and this car handles curves as if it could care less about details such as gravity. I happened to get low profile tires and this has only made the ride better. The suspension, steering, shifting (oooo, the shifting) are all top of the line, almost racing quality. The car has too many electronic perks to mention here but I am very happy with the way I can personalize the system.
Pros: convertible top
Cons: run flats ... expensive to replace and flat tire light ... very sensitive
Advice: Go to the Mini USA site and design the one you want, dealers will work with you or order the exact one you want!Awesome car! Fun to drive and surprisingly enough very roomy ... at least in the front seat. I LOVE this car.
Pros: Speed and Handling
Cons: Cost of Repairs
Advice: Unless you can afford to repair a BMW or Mercedes stay away.Quick and peppy just hope you don't have an alignment problem cause each tire costs almost $350.00 a piece and run flats wear alot quicker than normal tires. Stay away from Prestige MINI in Mahwah, NJ. Had to pay and extra month of payments after the lease return date even though the sales manager said it would be no problem. I will never buy or lease another foreign car.
Pros: Other drivers faces and watching people watch me whip into a mini parking space. Once they applauded.
Cons: Trying to get 3 people into the vehicle
Advice: Don't leave home without oneEnded my 36 mo lease on a 2004 Pepper White Black Top Mini and drove off in a 2006 Blue with Silver Top. Braman Motors in W Palm Beach, FL has a fantastic service center. You wouldn't believe the stuff my wife and I have put into the car with the rear seats down. Its a wonderfully driving car for one or two people.
Pros: The exterior
Cons: the poor quality and depreciation
Advice: It is a cute car but very high maintenance. Don't buy one if you don't have time to sit in the service center.I love the look of the Mini and think it is the cutest car on the road. However, I was greatly disappointed in the qualty of its components. I have a rattle in the car that required five visits to the dealrship to fix and it is still not fixed. The radio went out and had to be replaced. The seat heater on the passenger side had to be replaced after three months. The clock was broken and had to be replaced. The air conditioner motor needs to be replaced. I need two front tires due uneven wearing - not sure why that happened. The dealership I use for service is sick of seeing me so often. I tried to trade it in for a new car, but the depreciation for only one year was $10,000.00! So I am stuck with a lemon, a cute lemon but a lemon non-the less. I just want to pay it off and get rid of it.
