Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: Smooth and quiet ride.
Advice: Don't.In less than 30,000 miles the following have been replaced. Trunk latch, drive shaft, shift lever, shift gate, drive shaft (again!), all dashboard instruments and automatic transmission. While the car is a pleasure to drive and the dealer has been very accommodating the reliability is obviously terrible and this is the first and last Jaguar for me.
Pros: Jag styling, doesn't look like every other car
Cons: Nothing worth mentioning
Advice: Find one with a few miles on it, save a lotPurchased an 11 month old 4.2, saved almost $20K. Very happy with the car, fast and comfortable. In a town full of Beemers, Mercedes and Lexus, Dallas, the Jag stands out.
Pros: Makes me feel like a million bucks every time I drive it.
Cons: City fuel economy is poor, but highway is great.
Advice: Compare and price vs. the competition. This car is a great buy!The new XJ8 is a dream to drive! Super smooth ride and power delivery, typical of Jaguar. Classic leather and wood interior makes other luxury cars look cheap. Handling is amazing for a full sized car. And the look is still classic Jag, drawing favorable comments wherever I go.
Advice: DO NOT BUY/LEASE the Germans do it better.Having done my research on various vehicles,I took the chance and leased an X Type....Big Mistake...... The AWD, gas mileage and handling are decent but the quality of the vehicle is dreadful. New gearbox, fuel tank, alternator, various pumps & valves for fuel system, headlamps blown (3rd set) seats rock, sunroof has a mind of its own, failed parking brake, trunk lock malfunction...the list goes on and on ...Check out other customer reviews, some of the problems I have encountered (gearbox, fueltank)are not exclusive to my vehicle..Badly made in the UK
Pros: Great handling
Cons: Stereo system is just average
Advice: Spend a little more than for a Camry/Accord and get a real carHave had my 2002 X-type, Phoenix Red, 3.0, 5-speed for two years. No problems except that I'm constantly bothered by people asking about it and telling me how cool it looks. Excellent handing, acceleration and ride. Beautiful leather and wood interior. Much more comfortable than BMW 3, A4, Volvo S60 that I compared to. Please do not buy- it is nice to have a car you do not see on every street corner.
Cons: Radio, although the CD sounds better
Advice: Go for the manualI've had my 2.5 manual transmission for six months now, and it's been a gas. Lots of fun to drive - the all wheel drive is a plus and the handling is great. No problems at all.
Pros: Ride / Handling/and All Wheel Drive
Cons: stiff clutch tricky to engage slowly- I got use to it
Advice: automatic and maybe the 3.0Wow, I love this car, however it was in the shop for a check engine light, even though it took 3 trips to find the fuel vacuum leak, I got treated like Royalty and a LOANER JAG ta boot! Drivers electric mirror was a bit slow and jerky and it got replaced. The 5 speed has a touchy clutch, but I knew that when I baught it' Sound system is just ok again I knew that when I baught it. Over all value and looks,I give it a 10. I think I I could see me in a 2004... Oh ya, did I mention, Brakes and Handling a 10+? It's a head turner for sure.
