    2005 Ford Explorer - Limited 4.0L (260A) 4x4

Pros: Plenty of comfort and convenience with truck capabilities.

Cons: The fuel filter that is very difficult to access and change.

Advice: Shop until you can't take any more shopping. Prices vary greatly. Be patient and you will find a very good deal.

I bought my Explorer October, 2005 with 2300 miles on it. I now have almost 41k miles in January, 2007. I have had no problems with it other than a very slight paint problem that was resolved under warranty. This Explorer replaced a 1999 I had with 130k miles when I sold it. I use my Explores pulling my boat or trailer and I use four wheel drive regularly. Unlike most SUVs built on a car frame, the Explorer is a truck. For the money, nothing compares to the Explorer value (on 87 octane!).

    2007 Ford Explorer - Limited V8 (165B) 4x2

Pros: V8 engine, 6 speed tranny, Fully integrated Nav, stereo, & DVD, power fold 3rd row

Cons: Antenna, cheap seat pocket behind the 1st row, door handles for the 2nd row.

Advice: Buy V8. V8 and V6 offer idenfical gas mileage, but much more powerful.

Pros - Extremely quiet ride and comfortable. Powerful V8 engine, awesome stereo equipments (audiophile), powerfold 3rd row seat. Cons - Seat pockets behind the first row are not leather. Ugly Antenna. Over all, it is a great truck. The award winning V8 with 3V has been named one of the top 10 engine in the world for 3 years in a row. User friendly fully integrated Nav and stereo equipments further enhance driving experiences. Beautiful 2 tone leather seating and instrument Panels with power folded 3 row seating make driving experiences more fun than other trucks on the same class. Responsive ventilated disk brakes and loaded safety features are unparallel. The drawbacks are cosmetic, antenna, door handles for the 2nd row, and limited cheap plastic materials.

    2004 Ford Explorer - XLT 4.0L (220A) 4x4

    Pros: drives nice

    Cons: quality

    Advice: buy a honda

The explorer is very nice to drive when it is not in the shop and I am afraid for when I don't have waranty. I have had transmission problems and engine problems. My 04 Explorer has now been in the shop a week and they can't figure out what is wrong w/the computer for the dash. It has a howl in the rear-end and the power windows in the back won't roll down.

    2006 Ford Explorer - XLT 4.6L (125A) 4x2

Pros: How quite and smooth yet nimble the ride is.

Cons: The stereo needs a more midrange.

Advice: I would highly recommend this car especially if you need seating for 7 and the toughness of a truck.

I have owned a 2006 Explorer XLT with the 4.6L V8 engine and 3 rows of seats for 2 months now. I was impressed from the first time I drove the car. It was far beyond my expectations. I was amazed that a body on frame 'truck' could be so quiet, smooth and effortless to drive. This rides better and is quieter that the Lexus SUVs I have tried. A coworker of mine who is a European car fan was also amazed at how quite and smooth the ride is. Yet there is plenty of power with a nice growl from the V8 when needed. I have had seven adults fit comfortable in it. Even the 6 foot guy in the 3rd row said it was surprisingly roomy. I was aware of the unusual door pulls before I looked at the car and despite my concerns I don't even notice them now. I have had no problems with the fit, finish and quality of the construction so far. Out of all of the SUVs that I have owned this is by far the best.

    2006 Ford Explorer - XLT 4.6L (225A) 4x4

Pros: New quiet interior and towing capacity.

Cons: Although improved from last year, Gas mileage. Lack of Sirius radio as an option.

Advice: Concider the 4x2 as an option. The gas mileage is better.

I really enjoy the updated seating and interior. Ford plans to fix the door handle placement next year. I am getting used to it. The ride is nice and interior is quiet. I have a boat and a camper. The Explorer tows well. I found that several SUV's were built on a car chassis. I shopped foreign and domestic vehicles. This vehicle is the best 'Utility vehicle for the price.' The engineering of the frame and suspension cannot be matched.
