Pros: Ride, quiet, elevated front visibility, off-road handling, good mileage.
Cons: Front leg room
Advice: Fellow Jeep enthusiasts, don't let the 'cute' image fool you - this is a solid Jeep.I had to pass up some very tempting year-end discounts and incentives of competing manufacturer's vehicles in order to purchase my 2002 Liberty. What sold me on the Liberty is the way it has combined the ready and true off-road feel of the Wrangler, yet with all the comfort and quiet of a large street SUV. I have owned only Jeeps, Wranglers and Cherokees, since '86, and I was at first very skeptical about the arrival of the new Liberty. Now, I would have to say that Liberty is the best Jeep I have ever owned. Maybe I'm just a sucker for 'tradition', but to me it is still true what they say: 'Jeep wrote the book on four wheel drive'. The new Liberty fills that long tradition with style and distinction. This could be the best Jeep ever.
Cons: Gas Mileage
Advice: It's not a car like it's competitorsWe live in Colorado and just bought a new Jeep Liberty Sport V6. It blows away it's 'tin box' predecessor easy. So far it has been awesome and better then anything else in it's class for the same price. If you want a car (car chassey) buy a Sant Fe, Tribute, Rav 4, Escape or Highlander. If you want an SUV with off road skills then buy this Jeep!! Drives tight off road with clearance and has plenty of power. I was more impressed with it's off road skills then my former Jeep Cherokee Laredo and the highway/street driving is smooth with the new front suspension. Good power for mountains and great car. Comes with some nice features and 35/65 back seat split is standard, unlike the Escape and Tribute. We couldn't be happier! This car is in for a road trip beating in the next few years!!! Skiing, Camping, Hiking, Biking!!!
Pros: The body style
Cons: steering wheel blocks line of sight to speedometer
Advice: Try every vehicle you can then drive this one it will sell itself. This is a lower priced vehicle with a luxury feel. The interior feels as if it is a luxury vehicle without the pricetag. The ride was extremely smooth as compared to other SUV's. The V6 engine has more than enough UMPH to get the job done. We found the steering very responsive and easy to control. The infinity sound system is highly recommended. We really didn't want this at first but the controls are so ergonomically correct we are not sure we could buy another vehicle without it. There are some negatives such as the steering wheel falls right over my line of sight to the speedometer but that is just about it except for maybe the gas mileage but heck this is a SUV what do you expect. After our test drive we immediately purchased the vehicle and believe it or not at about 600 below the MSRP. We feel we got a great deal this early on the Limited model with several options we had not intended to get.
Pros: Its made like a Jeep, has lot of head room.
Cons: The small room in the back for my dog.
Advice: Get the V6 Engn. 3.7L for power/towingI think the Liberty Sport is a well built SUV, and it's rugged fetures should last a long time on the road & off the road. It handles very well & is very stable around sharp turns. With the V6,3.7L this has the power to get you moving. I give this Jeep a (9+) rating over all.
Pros: NEW V-6 ENGINE
Cons: MPG 16-20 MPG SHOULD BE 20-25 MPG
Advice: GO FOR THE V-6 AND LIMITED VERSION, ALSO SIDE AIR BAGSI TEST DROVE THE HONDA CRV, TOYOTA RAV4 AND THEY DROVE LIKE A CAR..........THEY SHOULD AS THEY ARE ALL CAR BASED SUV'S AND NOT A REAL OFF ROAD VEHICLE. I ALSO TEST DROVE THE DATED CHEROKEE BEFORE THE LIBERTY AND THOUGHT THE RIDE WAS ROUGH AS IT ALWAYS HAS BEEN. WITH THE BUILD OUT OF THE CHEROKEE GOING ON THEY ARE ALMOST GIVING THEM AWAY AND THE RESALE VALUE WILL DROP LIKE A ROCK. SO I THEN TEST DROVE A LIBERTY AND FOUND IT TO RIDE AND DRIVE AS GOOD OR BETTER THAN THE HONDA AND TOYOTA. I ORDERED ONE ON THE SPOT AT $500 OVER INVOICE WHICH I FELT WAS FAIR AS THE VECHICLE IS NEW AND IN DEMAND. I WENT FOR A LOADED LIMTED AND I WOULD SUGGEST THE NEW V-6 FOR THE ADDED POWER. ONE BAD SIDE, MPG 16 CITY/ 20 HWY.......BUT THIS IS A REAL JEEP, NOT A CAR BASED SUV..........LOVE IT... GET ALOT OF SMILES WHILE I'M DRIVING IT..... MAYBE THIS IS THE NEW 'BUG'.........
Advice: Really compare apples with apples before you buyTest drove vehicle, it rides stiff and just a slight bit better than old jeep. The cargo area is small with back seats up, tire is mounted dead center on rear door which makes it difficult to place items in vehicle with flip glass up especially for someone who is not to tall. Has a good engine, very simple interior. After you add all the non standard features, the overall cost of the vehicle is over priced as compared to others. Unfortunately dealers are marking up the vehicle over the MSRP by as much as $3,000 or more, all I can say is remember the Mazda Miata when they came out and now you can't give them away. In the end I chose to purchase a Hyundai Santa Fe SUV, better bargin, warranty, features and ride.
