Pros: Rear passenger room.
Cons: Window switches are not illuminated
Advice: See what most fits your needs! As the past owner of two Subaru vehicles, I was intent on buying another. However, after test driving an Outback, Forester, CR-V, Escape, Rav4 and then the Equinox, my predetermined notion began to wane. Of all the vehicles the Equinox had the most room and a smoother ride. The Forester was more nibble, but when going up hills the vehicle had to down shift(did not test turbo premium gas only) while the Equinox just pulled without breathing hard. All the Vehicles noted above are fine machines, but for me, the Equinox looks great and more importantly fit my needs better. Likewise, test all the vehicles and be sure your family is as comfortable as you are. Finally, I believe the Equinox is a good value enabling the buyer to have a few more options than the others, after all you do want a few goodies.
Advice: don't buypower for this vehicle is very poor.at hwy speeds the engine has trouble pulling the car in high gear.we went to colorado in it and it stayed in 4th gear most of the way causing the gas mileage to be around 14 for two tank average.windshield wipers controls are not lighted and night use is by feel only not good for a multifunction control.with only 6k on it and 3mo. old been in shop several times once for coolant smells when heater in use.there is a service bulletin for this and dealer fixed and flushed system now engine is making noise under power.couple times for rattles.lots of road noise!test drive down bumpy road is a must.rides ok but that's no reason to buy.consumer reports says nothing good but backseat leg room.there is alot better choices for this kind of money.can't wait to get rid of this car before warranty runs out.buy something else and save money now and later!wish i would have researched even a little.
Pros: Engine compartment accessibility
Cons: No storage space in back to contain loose items
Advice: Talk to a present owner, then look for the missing small things. My 2005 Equinox LS AWD is a disappointment. All the little ammenities are missing. The power window buttons are not illuminated so have fun trying to find the right button to push at night. No ash trays, no hangars in the rear to hand up your jacket, no indicator to show when the AWD is engaged, space-saver tire. Rides OK but definitely could be softer. Will be trading it in shortly.
Pros: The fold-down passenger seat
Cons: Interior dome lighting
Advice: noneI have had my Equinox for a little over three weeks now and have managed to rack up just over 3000 miles so far. I am in the car a lot and I am pleased with it so far. I am however disappointed with the gas mileage. I can just barely get 21 mpg driving very conservatively with the A/C off and the cruise set at interstate speed, a far cry from the claimed 25.
Pros: The rear seating and cargo room
Advice: This truck is very practical for any family and couple.Very comfortable ride in the front seats. Lower road noise then my mid size sedan.
Cons: seat fabric seems to stain easily
Advice: great vehicle, go for itVery happy with this vehicle. Much nicer inside and out compared to other vehicles in the class.
Pros: roomy and the looks
Cons: limit to one engine choice
Advice: a great buy. It has everything one is looking for... styleGreat idea with the electronic controlled sterring. Doesn't drive sloppy like most big SUVs. Rider has a good feel to the rode when driving. Drives nice and smooth. We love it.
