I have owned (3) BMW 5-series vehicles since 2000; a 2000 535i, bought new, kept for 14 years. Then, a 2014 (36-month) 535i lease, and now, a 2017 540i lease. Each of the vehicles has been superb.. performance, styling, finish, comfort (cabin space, quiet, seating), and effective use of technology. So far, the 2014 was been my favorite. (Obviously, I haven't owned the new car for a year.)
good car for $$$
Perfect car. E39 M5 was the last M car with a naturally aspirated V8, with the famous, precise and wonderful six speed stick. Inside finish quality outstanding, looks better than many new cars today. Engine is great. Doesn't go 0-60 in 4 seconds, but who really needs that? This one takes about 4.6 seconds. But plenty of torque, monstrous in mid range (2200-50002 rpm). Well built, handles well in rain and even light snow.
Actually RWD coupe. Really quick off line. Great low end torque. Quality good. Interior NOT up to new A4 or. MB, and not up to my 2002 M5. BMW put money into performance. While not true M car (and need to remember this, not built for track the way a real M car is), it is very fast, corners well, rides well. Interior ok. Outside look good, not great.
31,000 miles in excellent condition
I fail to understand the lack of interest in this car. I know for a fact that when I am riding down any road venue I receive nothing but compliments. This car is truly a sleeper and I am very proud to own it. The lift gate has allowed me to somewhat use it as a mini truck, especially when I fold the rear seats.
