New Car Rebates and Incentives: October 17, 2013

October continues to offer strong rebates and incentives on new cars and trucks as the 2013 model year is cleared out in advance of the upcoming holidays.  Our list begins this week with the 2013 Nissan Sentra compact sedan, which combines zero percent financing plus $500 cash back or $500 in total cash rebates.  Next up is the 2013 Chevrolet Sonic subcompact car, which provides the choice between zero percent financing plus $1,000 cash back or $2,000 in total cash back, followed by the 2013 Mazda MAZDA2 subcompact hatchback which makes exactly the same offer.  The 2013 Dodge Avenger mid-size sedan features 0.0% financing or $3,000 in factory cash rebates, while the 2014 Kia Sorento ties things together by way of its zero percent financing or $1,000 cash back offer.

2013 Nissan Sentra

The 2013 Nissan Sentra provides compact sedan shoppers with an option that is far larger inside - especially in the rear seat - than one might first expect.  The Nissan Sentra is also a very affordable vehicle, and the recently-redesigned model cribs styling cues from the mid-size Altima sedan.

The 2013 Nissan Sentra comes exclusively with a 1.8-liter, four-cylinder engine that generates 130 horsepower and 128 lb-ft of torque.  Buyers can choose between either a six-speed manual or a continuously-variable automatic transmissions; with the latter installed, fuel mileage is listed at 30-mpg in city driving and 39-mpg on the highway.

2013 Chevrolet Sonic

The 2013 Chevrolet Sonic can be had in both sedan and hatchback body styles, with the five-door model offering additional practicality in the form of 30.9 cubic feet of total cargo space.  The Chevrolet Sonic subcompact hatchback is also available in RS trim, which installs rear disc brakes, a closer-ratio transmission, and a stiffer suspension system.

The 2013 Chevrolet Sonic starts out with a 1.8-liter, four-cylinder engine that is rated at 138 horsepower and 125 lb-ft of torque.  Stepping up the vehicle's optional 1.4-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder nets the same horsepower output but boosts torque to 148 lb-ft.  It also turns in the best fuel mileage of the two motors, showing as 29-mpg around town and 40-mpg on the highway.

2013 Mazda MAZDA2

The 2013 Mazda MAZDA2 is a subcompact hatchback that is easy on the pocketbook but still manages to deliver a relatively engaging driving experience compared to several of its rivals.  The Mazda MAZDA2 is a sparsely appointed vehicle, however, going without many of the modern technologies that have worked their way down to the entry-level segment.

The 2013 Mazda MAZDA2 is outfitted with a single engine choice, a 1.5-liter, four-cylinder engine that has been tuned to produce 100 horsepower and 98 lb-ft of torque.  A five-speed manual transmission is included with the MAZDA2 free of charge while a four-speed automatic can be selected as an option.  Fuel economy for the tiny hatch comes in at 29-mpg in stop and go driving and 35-mpg during highway cruising.

2013 Dodge Avenger

The 2013 Dodge Avenger is a mid-size sedan that comes with sharp styling and a reasonably spacious interior.  The Dodge Avenger R/T trim level turns things up a notch in the performance department due to its trick suspension system and more responsive steering.

The 2013 Dodge Avenger can be had in both four and six-cylinder editions.  The entry-level 2.4-liter motor offers up 173 horse power and 166 lb-ft of torque, while its 3.6-liter V-6 introduces 283 horses and 260 lb-ft of twist to the equation.  Fuel mileage for the four-cylinder engine is barely better than that of the V-6 (21-mpg in city driving and 29-mpg on the highway), and a mix of four and six-speed automatic transmissions handle the gear shifting duties for the Avenger.

2014 Kia Sorento

The 2014 Kia Sorento provides a few updates for those seeking an inexpensive mid-size SUV.  The five-passenger Kia Sorento can now be had in a more feature-laden SX trim level (which is also a bit more fun to drive), and the vehicle’s interior trim and exterior looks have been improved.

The 2014 Kia Sorento is initially offered with a 191 horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that is also good for 181 lb-ft of torque.  A better choice – especially for those will be frequently driving with a full load of passengers – is the Sorento’s available 3.3-liter V-6, a motor that is good for 290 horsepower and 252 lb-ft of torque.  All-wheel drive is optional with the Sorento, but front-wheel drive, four-cylinder versions of the SUV achieve the best fuel mileage (20-mpg city / 26-mpg highway).  A six-speed automatic transmission is standard across the board with the Kia.
