Ram Becomes First Manufacturer-back Monster in More than 10 Years
Pietro Gorlier, president and CEO of Mopar—Chrysler Group’s service, parts and customer-care brand—recently noted that: “So much of what Mopar does is applicable to the general consumer, but occasionally we like to show just how capable our brand is of really extreme performance.”
In fact, Gorlier was speaking at exactly such an occasion, helping introduce the new “Mopar Muscle” monster truck that’s based on the 2014 Ram HD and will be competing in this year’s Monster Jam Racing Series. The truck will be the series’ first entry from an original equipment manufacturer in more than 10 years, although the day-to-day operations will be handled by the Monster Jam veterans at Hall Brother Racing, based out of Champaign, Ill.
The Halls have plenty of Ram experience, too, winning past Monster Jam championships with their “Raminator” and “Rammunition” trucks. For this year, the team will support Mopar Muscle during six series events, with yet another Ram fan and Mopar man behind the wheel. That’s Hall Brothers driver Mike Miller, who has his own personal reasons for looking forward to driving Mopar Muscle.
“Not only have I been passionate about monster trucks since my childhood,” said Miller, “but I am really honored to fly the Mopar banner. If you need any indication of how much I love the brand, my own son is named Hemi.”
Of course, with a supercharged HEMI V8 under the hood, transforming more than 9 liters of displacement into some 2,000 hp, the truck itself should be flying as well.
Yet as explained by Tricia Hecker, Mopar’s marketing director: “It wasn’t just the display of power and performance that made this a good fit for Mopar, but the environment is just so family-oriented. With such a strong youth following, we see this as a fantastic way to have a new generation of fans grow up with the Mopar name.”
