Mitsubishi Heads To Pikes Peak With MiEV Evolution III

For the past two years, Mitsubishi has been tackling the grueling Pikes Peak Hill Climb, not with a standard race car running on gasoline, but with an electric race car. The company announced this month that they'll be tackling the hill climb in a updated version of the MiEV Evolution named the MiEV Evolution III.

The MiEV Evolution III features a number of upgrades to help it become number one. Those upgrades include increased power from the two electric motors to 603 horsepower, a new tube frame chassis with new materials to decrease weight, and a improved Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system to improve handling.

"Pikes Peak is an excellent laboratory for testing our advanced MiEV (Mitsubishi innovative Electric Vehicle) technology. It not only features high elevations but also a range of weather conditions to challenge the performance and reliability of our technology," said Don Swearingen, executive vice president Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA).

Mitsubishi will be bringing two MiEV Evolution III with two-time Dakar rally winner Hiroshi Masuoka and six-time Pikes Peak motorcycle champion Greg Tracy.

This year's Pikes Peak Hill Climb takes place on June 29th.
