The Mitsubishi Certified Pre-Owned program was established to add an additional layer of quality to the used cars and crossovers being sold by Mitsubishi dealerships in the United States. Thanks to a detailed selection and inspection process, Mitsubishi is able to sell secondhand cars that offer new car-style warranty protection without new car pricing.
Mitsubishi places some very definite limits on what vehicles it will consider for inclusion in its Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) program. An automobile can be a maximum of five years old in order to start the CPO vetting process, and its odometer can show no more than 60,000 miles.
Certain models are also disqualified from participating in the CPO program, including the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, the Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart, the Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback Ralliart and the Mitsubishi Raider pickup.
After an automobile has passed through the vehicle selection process, it must then make its way to a dealership’s tech bay where it is put through a rigorous, 123-point inspection that is designed to catch any potential problems with a car or crossover before it is put on sale. The vehicle’s engine and mechanical systems are inspected, along with the chassis, the suspension, the interior and the exterior, with an eye towards repairing and replacing any damaged components as well as restoring the vehicle’s aesthetic appearance to the point where it matches what it offered when it was brand new.
The highlight of buying a Mitsubishi CPO vehicle is the 10-year / 100,000 mile powertrain warranty that is associated with all Certified Pre-Owned automobiles sold by the brand. This warranty provides repairs and parts replacement of the vehicle’s driveline components, such as the engine, the transmission and the running gear, and starts from the original date that the automobile was first put into service. If the car or crossover’s original five-year / 60,000 mile powertrain warranty is still valid, then it takes precedence over the 10-year / 100,000 mile warranty until it has run out.
