Mercedes-Benz COMAND System Review from CLA250

Exclusive, branded infotainment systems are one of the latest ways for automotive manufacturers to distinguish themselves from the competition. These systems, which were designed to offer a consolidated interface for most of the car’s control functions, appear everywhere. Infotainment systems aren’t just for luxury cars anymore. That said, luxury cars depend on the latest technology to help edge out the competition, so a top notch infotainment system is an important feature. Autobytel spent some time with a 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA250 to check out Mercedes’ COMAND system. In this video review, Autobytel’s Road Test Editor Benjamin Hunting shares his thoughts on the experience. Right off the bat, Benjamin notes that the COMAND system is controversial, especially amongst Mercedes-Benz purists. The apparent goal with most infotainment systems in other car brands is to integrate the interface as seamlessly into the car as possible, to make it feel natural and intuitive. Mercedes has taken the opposite approach, and as a result, the COMAND system looks and feels like an aftermarket accessory. It’s mounted on the dash, rather than being integrated into it, which takes away from the luxury look and feel of the car. However, the COMAND system in the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA250 does everything you’d want it to do, incorporating audio, Bluetooth wireless smartphone integration, and navigation.
