If you're looking for the automotive equlivant of a tank, then you should look at the 2013 Mercedes-Benz G550 SUV. The G550 is part of the G-Wagen family, a group of SUVs that were created back in the seventies for the German military. The goal was simple, build a vehicle that could go anywhere. Since that time, the G-Wagen lineup has grown both in legend and amenties.

The G550's exterior hasn't changed much since the first G-Wagens were sent to the German military. The boxy shape has been smoothed over somewhat and a handsome set of eighteen-inch alloy wheels have been added. There is also a grille protector and LED accent lighting. Inside, the G550 follows the template for Mercedes-Benz luxury. There is an abundance of leather and high quality materials throughout, a revised instrument cluster, and the newest version of Mercedes-Benz's COMMAND infotainment system.

Under the hood of the G550 is a 5.5L V8 engine with 388 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque. This is paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive. Fuel economy is rated at 12 City/15 Highway/13 Combined. The G550 also comes with a two-speed transfer case for the four-wheel drive system and three locking differentials, making the G550 a very capable SUV.

A 2013 Mercedes-Benz G550 starts at $113,000. Competitors to the G550 include the Audi Q7, BMW X5, Porsche Cayenne, and Range Rover.
