Pros: the way the car handles
Cons: not starting in the cold
Advice: you will love this car but watch the rotary engine take care of it and let it warm up before you drive it.i dont know what you people are talking about i owned a 2005 rx-8 shinka edition and had no problems with it traded that for a dodge charger and regreted that move i loved that rx-8 so went out and bought an another one. if you now how to take care of it, it will be reliable otherwise youll have the same problems as everone else now i own an 04 and am getting ready to purchase a 2007 as well because this is the best car i have owned driving the vehicle is like playing a video game the adrenaline rush you get going 120 downshifting and having it still push your head in the seat. some of you say it doesn't have that much power you just cant drive. just the way it handles is amazing and i will not lose another one of these cars and cant wait to get another one.
Pros: Handling and clutch.
Cons: Automatic seat takes to long to move from the back to the front of the car.
Advice: Test drive it, think of the maintenance of the car. The car has to be babied, but will reward you with the pure enjoyment of driving the car.I've had my RX-8 for 1 1/2 years. Sure it's been in the shop 3 times. Once I flooded the engine, which I took responsibility for. Once the engine light went on because there was a short on one of the wires. The 3rd time I brought it in for a few recalls, regarding the cluch housing and covering for the gas tank. I have been very happy and satisfied other wise. I'm not sure why people on here think that the performance is bad, but they truly don't know how to drive this car if they think that. At a little over 3k pounds, the 238 horses are more than enough to get this car moving. While doing 60 mph and in sixth gear you can drop it to 3rd and it will take off on you. I've taken turns where signs are posted to 35 mph at 60 mph. This car's versatility is great. The handling is amazing and driving it is just completely fun. The clutch is probably the best feature on this car and it's very forgiving as opposed to other cars. I don't think the problem is with the car, it's with the driver of the car. They in most probability don't understand what it takes to keep this car running right, checking the oil levels every week if it's your day to day. Making sure you warm up the car properly, these are things that rotaries need, but with this care you could expect your rotary to last you almost twice as long as a piston powered car will last you.
Pros: handling ability
Cons: expensive wheel/tire combo
Advice: treat the car good and you will love it.I have just bought a 2006 6 speed. I have yet to have any problems out of it. It has started every time. I have always started the car and let it warm up before I go anywhere. The only problem I have had so far is a rattle from the clutch/transmission when in neutral while not having the clutch pressed in. Other than that, I have been happy with the car and it has performed well. I recommend buying one but, do understand that you have to be specific and careful about the care of the engine and checking the oil.
Pros: The looks
Cons: The performance
Advice: Don't bother looking at it STAY AWAY!!!!!!First let me start by saying this is my first time having a sports car. So where should I begin of my dislikes. Within the first 6 months it was in the shop 3 times for hard starting, studdering and overall poor performance. I have had the car for almost 2 years and been looking for a different vehicle and having a hard time getting my payoff for the car. Every dealer knows about the problems that the rx8 has and they don't want them either. It also has left me stranded twice. Oh did I mention the clutch failed also. The only positive thing I can say is that MAzda has fixed everything so far. I've always been a truck girl and I think I'll go back to diving a truck.
Pros: Styling: Interior or Exterior
Cons: Gas milage.
Advice: Find out the disadvantages of a rotary engine.Great looks as everyone knows. The interior styling and materials (even on a bare-bones model) look like they belong on a car twice its price. Handling is supurb and the backseat is actually practical unlike any other car of remotely sporty styling. Trunk space isn't massive but it's enough for a weekend of luggage and a golf bag (barely). Despite all this, there are some very pronounced drawbacks. This car will not win any drag races. It's not pokey, but it doesn't have the horsepower to match its looks. The rotary engine gives it some decent torque at high rpms, but gas mileage is as bad as you've heard and it doesn't start easily in cold weather (don't buy one north of the Mason-Dixon line). Expect to burn oil as part of normal operation and just add a quart every now and then. It's also rear-wheel drive which is another reason you dont WANT to start it in freezing weather. On dry roads, you wont find better handling. In slick weather, the rear wheel drive with a heavy chassy and decent torque makes for dangerous handling. Buy this car because you want a unique style at a reasonable price. It's fun to drive and gets a fair amount of zoom zoom, but it won't compete with the 350Z or any 'competitor' on the street.
Cons: Lack of reliability and poor performance
Advice: I would buy a different carI want to start by saying that I am absolutely a sports car enthusiast. I own this car because I fell in love with the look. I guess I shouldn't have judged this book by its cover. Because that is the only good thing I can say about the car. It is slower than advertised and it does not meat my performance requirements. Furthermore the reliability of the car has been a constant issue. Whenever it is cold, it doesn't start and hence the car has broken down numerous times. The manufacturer has given me the run around and has never fixed the car to my satisfaction. In the past I have owned a BMW M3 and currently I just bought an Audi S4. While i certainly understand that these cars cost significantly more money, in my mind they are worth much more than 2x the cost of the RX8. If the RX8 is worth 29K, my Audi S4 is worth a million.
