Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
For the price you cannot get a better handling or more fun sports car. My son's Porsche 911 is faster but has no more room in it than the MX5 and for 1/3rd the price the MX5 handles as well. Quite an improvement over the British sports cars it was designed after.
best little sport car ever
Pros: the whole car
Cons: no spare tire
I bought thwe car for myself because my wife told me to buy what I wanted so I did. It is one of the best cars around and it is great fun to drive. My wife did not like the car a lot until she started to drive it and now it is hard to get it because the one who is driving it now. I guess enough is said in the statement.Pros: The performance
Cons: No pockets in the doors
Advice: Buy it
Just received this MX-5 last week. First tank full of gas averaged 31.2 mpg. Hey, that's more than the stickered rating. Performance is excellent for a 163 hp motor, and the six speed automatic, yes automatic transmission works great. I can't think of anything negative, other than it is noisier than my Mazda 6 was, but it's fun. The six cd radio has a better sound than my 6's Bose system had. That surprised me. This is a true sportscar, so getting in and out is more difficult than in my previous car, but after you are in the MX-5, it is more comfortable. Two things that I can't understand why Mazda didn't put in this car, is pockets in the doors, and a true center consul. It has other places, but the normal places that I mentioned, well they're not there. If you are looking for a nice all around sportscar, that won't break the bank, both in cost and cost of operation, this is it.Pros: The handleing
Cons: The lack of a readily accessable space to accomodate a kleenex box -us old people need that
Advice: If you can't afford one, don.t drive one - because if you drive one you'll buy one.
A superb second car - obviously not a family car. A realy fun way to get from point A to point B - even when in town. This car is a dream come true for me. I'm a retired Ford engineer (and, yes I feel guilty about buying a car made in the Orient) but I've given up waiting on Ford to produce a similar product, domesticaly. Yes I know Ford holds a sizeable interest in Mazda and even ultilizes some of Mazda's platforms, but I still feel guilt. My rationale is that I'm old now (79)- the kids have vacated our abode - I can afford the car - the MX-5 is a great summer car - and who knows how many summers I have left?Pros: The new body style
Cons: The gas cap cover hinge is a bit wimpy, when waxing it is easy to push it down. Then you must bend it back.
Advice: BUY!!
This is the first MX5 I have driven. We looked at an older BMW Z3. No contest, the MX5 was the car! The BMW was faster but the MX5 was much more responsive and more fun to drive. Quick and corners fantastic. I had owned Triumph when I was younger, TR 3A and TR 250, so understand the feel of the sports car. The MX5 is the most fun car I have ever driven.Pros: Handling is superb
Cons: Standard radio not the best.
Advice: Get one
What a fun car. Very solid like my old 911.
