To the surprise of exactly no one, the 2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata 25th Anniversary Edition sold out just 10 minutes after Mazda opened the order banks. That's how long it took for 250 potential customers to register for the 100 limited-edition Miatas, which will go to the first 100 drivers that Mazda verifies as legit purchasers.

At that stage, folks will be able to order a 2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata 25th Anniversary Edition with a standard six-speed manual transmission for a starting price of $32,205, while models with an automatic gearbox will open at $32,655. Either way, the Silver Anniversary Miatas will be offered only with a power-retractable hard top and feature upgraded engine components, some tasteful image enhancements and a custom-crafted Tourneau timepiece, complete with "MX-5" and "25th Anniversary" graphics and its own display box.

As noted by Jim O'Sullivan, president and CEO for Mazda North American Operations: "It is no secret the MX-5 Miata 25th Anniversary Edition is a specially-crafted 'Thank you' to every MX-5 fan—former, current and hopefully future. The enthusiasm surrounding the MX-5 since its debut in 1989 has been nothing short of phenomenal, and we sincerely appreciate every single person that has experienced the absolute joy of driving in an MX-5—whether behind the wheel or as a passenger. Since day one, this vehicle has been a true driver's car and we hope to continue to build upon its dynamic legacy for generations to come."

Of course, as that process continues, the automaker will continue to offer standard editions of the 2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata, with an MSRP of $23,970 that rises to $28,655 for hard-top variants.
