Changes for the 2014 Mazda6:
The Mazda 6 midsize family sedan is completely redesigned, inside, outside, and under the hood. In addition to fuel-saving SkyActiv engine technology, the sleek new Mazda6 is offered with numerous new features and technologies.
Model Lineup:
Mazda sells the redesigned 2014 Mazda6 in Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring trim levels. Get the Sport model with the optional automatic transmission, and it includes a 5.8-inch color touchscreen infotainment system with several useful features.
Upgrading to the Touring model adds 19-inch aluminum wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, leatherette upholstery, a blind-spot information system, and more.
The Grand Touring adds leather seats, an 11-speaker premium audio system, navigation, a power sunroof, keyless passive entry with push-button engine starting, upgraded headlights and taillights, fog lights, rain-sensing wipers, and much more.
Engines and Transmissions:
A 184-horsepower, 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine is standard, equipped with SkyActiv technology designed to maximize power and fuel economy while minimizing emissions. A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard for the Mazda 6 Sport, with a 6-speed automatic optional. The automatic is standard for the Touring and Grand Touring trim levels.
Sometime during the 2014 model year, a new 2.2-liter diesel engine will become available, promising better performance and better fuel economy while meeting clean diesel emissions standards.
Fuel Economy Ratings:
With the standard manual transmission, the Mazda6 is rated to get 29 mpg in combined driving, according to the EPA. Choose the automatic transmission, and the car is expected to return 30 mpg. Opt for the Grand Touring model with the Technology Package, which includes an i-ELOOP brake energy regeneration system, and the fuel economy rating rises to 32 mpg in combined driving, thanks to a bump in highway fuel economy to 40 mpg.
Safety Ratings:
Thanks to an “Acceptable” rating in the new small overlap frontal-impact crash test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the 2014 Mazda 6 is named a “Top Safety Pick Plus.” The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not performed crash tests on the new Mazda 6.
Technology Highlights:
As long as you buy a Mazda 6 with an automatic transmission, your new car has a touchscreen infotainment system equipped with Bluetooth connectivity and music streaming capability, a reversing camera, SMS text messaging capability, Pandora Internet radio compatibility, and E911 service. With E911, if the Mazda 6’s airbags deploy, emergency responders are automatically notified and sent to the car’s location.
The Mazda6 Touring models add a blind-spot information system and a rear cross-traffic alert system, and can be optioned with a navigation system and a Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) system designed to help avoid low-speed collisions with pedestrians and other vehicles.
Select the Mazda6 Grand Touring for standard SCBS, active headlights, and navigation. Options on this model include adaptive radar cruise control, a forward collision warning system, a lane departure warning system, and automatic high-beam headlights. The Grand Touring is also offered with the fuel-saving i-ELOOP brake energy regeneration system.
