2012 Mazda2: Video Road Test and Review

The Mazda2 is a four door five passenger compact hatchback powered by a 1.5 Liter four cylinder that produces 100 HP and 98 lb-ft of torque being sent to the front wheels via a five speed manual or a four speed automatic gearbox and is good for an estimated 29 MPG in the city and as much as 35 MPG on the highway.  Mazda makes the 2 available in two trims: Sport and Touring.

The base Mazda2 Sport wears a pair of bright burning halogen headlamps, color matching side mirrors and door handles as well as a set of 15 inch steel wheels.  On the inside, the Japanese automaker from Hiroshima adds a host of standard amenities like remote keyless entry, air conditioning, power accessories with one touch driver’s window, tilt steering wheel, height adjustable front shoulder belts for the six way manually adjustable drivers seat wrapped in sport cloth and a 60/40 split rear bench.  Audio entertainment duties are handled by a 4 speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary input jack starting at $14,530.

The well equipped Mazda2 Touring adds a few stylish touches like fog lamps, a rear spoiler, chrome exhaust tip and a set of 15 inch alloys.  Starting at $16,020 the 2 Touring adds cruise control buttons to the leather wrapped steering wheel as well as audio controls, touring cloth trim with red piping, cloth door panels and a six speaker stereo.  Optional equipment on both variants of the Mazda2 include the exclusive Crystal White Pearl Mica paint, functional roof rack, stylish side skirts and an auto dimming mirror with HomeLink, a feature that combines all the bulky RF transmitters that allow you to open your front gate, garage door and even your home’s security system amongst other items with one neat little bundle, as well as a set of all weather floor mats.
