The Lexus LX 570 is a four-door, eight passenger luxury sport-utility vehicle. The Lexus LX was the first sport-utility vehicle to be offered by the company. Based on the venerable Toyota Land Cruiser, the LX went on sale in 1996 and boasted many of the Land Cruiser’s off-road capabilities combined with a luxurious interior and a ride that took some of the edge off of the full-size truck platform. The LX gave Lexus a wedge into the large SUV market that had previously been dominated by domestic automakers, and it also positioned them to better compete with the Mercedes-Benz M-Class which was introduced around the same point in time.

The Lexus LX 570 has seen a thorough refresh that provides the vehicle with a new engine, a new chassis, and more modern exterior styling. In place of the chunkier front end of the previous generation, the new LX bears a more tapered look that resembles that of the GS and LS sedans. Under the hood can be found a 5.7 liter V8. The largest engine ever installed in a Lexus vehicle, this engine produces 383 horsepower and 403 lb-ft of torque. Matched with a 6-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission, this powerful motor gives the LX 570 a towing capacity of 8,500 lbs – bringing it in line with vehicles such as the Chevrolet Suburban and other full-size domestic pickup trucks.

The vehicles uses a four-wheel drive system with a limited-slip center differential, borrowing much of the Land Cruiser’s off-road prowess in the form of Active Traction Control, Vehicle Stability Control and the unique Crawl Control which allows for the maintenance of low speeds across uneven surfaces without the requirement of riding the brakes. Downhill Assist Control, which proceeds from a similar technology, and Hill-start assist Control are also offered.

In addition to providing excellent trail capabilities, the LX 570 is also adept at keeping driver and passengers comfortable. Leather seats are standard, as is walnut wood trim, and buyers can opt to upgrade either material to an even classier standard. The Lexus seats 8 people, and all three rows offer adequate space for adults. The driver’s seat has 14 different power adjustments and rear climate controls can also be ordered – and are recommended, given the size of the vehicle. Keyless entry, a standard navigation system and optional adaptive cruise control round out the features list.

The LX 570 shines as brightly on the pavement as it does off-road. The new V8 engine is more than up to the task of motivating the heavy SUV, and the sensation of being in control of reams of power flows from the smooth delivery of the 6-speed automatic. The LX is especially sure footed during inclement weather, thanks to the four-wheel drive system and the vehicle’s immense footprint. Suspension that is stiff enough to be of use on the trail is also tuned to be particularly comfortable on the street, giving the Lexus the fortitude of a truck without the requisite bone-shaking ride.

The Lexus LX 570 is a solid example of the evolution of Lexus’ full-size SUV platform. With ample cargo space, excellent towing and effortless power, the LX is a vehicle that leaves nothing on the table. The new for 2008 exterior styling also helps to bring the LX into the modern era, making it feel truly a part of the Lexus design family.

The 2009 Lexus LX has had a few minor changes since its last model year. The rear windows have been given privacy glass and there is a new exterior paint color now available- Azul Mica. The LX 570 has a new options package of luxury items, including a new, darker finish for the 570’s wheels, a center bin that is chilled, a smart-card key that works by remote, a new leather upholstery type and new wood trim on the interior. The LX 560 is the base model for the LX, and it comes standard with a host of luxury amenities. Standard features on the 560 include: xenon headlights that are adaptive, a power liftgate, leather upholstery on the seats, a sunroof, wood trim, automatic climate control with four zones, 20-inch wheels made from alloy, front seats that are heated and power adjustable, memory presets on the driver’s seat, Bluetooth, satellite radio, an auxiliary audio jack and suspension that is electronically controlled that includes damping control and adaptive ride height. It also comes standard with a six-CD changer and a premium sound system with nine speakers. Another feature is a navigation system based in a hard drive that is voice activated and comes with a rearview camera and real-time traffic reporting.

Options on the LX include front seats that are climate controlled along with middle-row seats that are heated, adaptive cruise control, an entertainment center for the rear seats, park assist, parking-view monitors on the front and the sides and a Mark Levinson audio system with 19 speakers and music storage of 30GB.

The LX 570 has a 5.7 liter, V8 engine with 383 horsepower. It has a six-speed automatic transmission system that includes a manual shift control standard. With the proper equipment, the LX can tow up to 8,500 pounds.
