Pros: Off/Bad road control
Cons: Spare tire location
Advice: Don't complain about the interior comfort and fuel economy after the sale.Solid, The 2005 FL is a better built vehicle than the 2002-2003. The 3 position transmission allows the driver to get the performance they want from the vehicle.
Cons: the quality
Advice: don't even think of buying the vehicle.after 65000 miles and numerous trips for service. my freelander need over 6500 dollars worth of repairs. this vehicle is garbage. DO NOT BUY IT.
Pros: Permanent AWD
Cons: perhaps a little bit better gas milage
Advice: If you want true off road capability with style and comfort in a compact SUVAfter test driving 4 other compact SUV's I picked the 2004 FreeLander and since have not regreted the decision. I am still amazed with this vehicle's performance in snow, mud and flowing water ... yes I took it off road not once but for a 2 week vacation off roading!
Advice: Don't even think buying Land Rover Freelander.I own Land Rover Freelander SE 2005 for a two months. For a first three weeks I had engine, front brakes and drive shaft replaced and had a car total 20 days in service shop. Still having problems with squeaking noise. Customer service very poor. They treat you as a second hand customer. Huge waist of time and money. Right now in Lemon Law process.
Advice: Don't Buy It.In my openion Worst Car on the Market. Needed new breaks after 12000 miles. Land Rover said the was 'normal' for Disk breaks. 4 differnt break shops said this was cheap materials and poor design. Motor started stalling after only 110000, air not working properly after 15000. V6 has the power of a very small 4cy.
Pros: Heated windshield, heated seats.
Cons: Low power and high maintenance
Advice: Run away! This car drives great for an SUV (aside from a real lack of power). It is very comfortable, and quiet and not at all trucky. The problem is the quality. In less than 3 years I have had to have all of the following REPLACED: engine (I am not kidding - they had to replace the ENTIRE engine); transmission; brakes (twice); sunroof motor; power window motor (twice); fuel pump; axles (broken when engine replaced); door lock/opener (twice). There was also some strange electrical problem. And my AM radio doesn't work. The guy at Land Rover service is GREAT but I am seeing WAY too much of him! The car is also very underpowered.
Pros: the look
Cons: numerous problems with lead to safety and reliability issues.
Advice: Dont' waste your time or money2004 review: Let's see where do I start. I've owned my Freelander for exactly 1 year and I've had the following problems: transmission, throttle, air flow inlet valve, misc. flashing lights, vehicle downshifts on it's own at high speeds, both trans axles needed to be be replaced. The car is a gas guzzler, has no acceleration..shall I go on? This is the first and last Land Rover I will ever own.
