    2005 Kia Spectra5 - (M5)

    Pros: Gas Mileage

    Cons: No cruise control

    Advice: Buy it

Handles nice, do feel more bumps, but other than that steering is tight and positive. Only problem has been the gas cap door, does stick sometimes. Took it to dealer, they fixed, but still does it once in awhile

    2005 Kia Spectra5 - (M5)

    Pros: Features for the money.

Cons: Ongoing safety issues after almost a year

Advice: Don't buy it if you have passengers you care about.

I looked at every product review that I could find online, and read the JD Powers findings and safety ratings before buying my new Specra5 to be an educated buyer. I, like Amber in Phoenix, have the shaking steering wheel at freeway speeds that the dealer hasn't been able to identify or correct in the past ten months (15000 miles). KIA Consumer Affairs led me to believe that my issue is unique - NOT! Please email if you have the same issue. While it's sporty, fun, practical and very comfortable, my passenger side airbag sensors only work at times, and my passengers don't feel safe when they see the lighted warning that their safety devices are turned off. The selling dealer has gone to great lengths to correct the shaking wheel and the airbag issues, but KIA doesn't seem to have the engineering expertise (or concern or honesty?) to resolve design flaws. There has been a Technical Service Bulletin since March 2006 that was supposed to fix the airbag deployment failure. A 10-year warranty isn't worth much if the manufacturer can't figure out how to fix the problems, especially when it comes to steering, brakes or crash protection. My wife refuses to ride with me now because she looks out her side window and sees the big SUV or pickup bumper at face level and isn't sure if her 3 passenger side airbags will even deploy if needed! See NHTSA ODI online for more details on problems. If drivers have family or a regular passenger, I suggest they buy something else. But if you're a loner and don't mind a shaking steering wheel, it's a fun and comfortable little car to drive. Other issues that were corrected have been a paint defect (the was approved by KIA and repaired), a bad speaker in the back (which I opted to replace), and air in the clutch slave cylinder line (which corrected itself after the dealer couldn't find the problem in the first 8900 miles I drove the car).

    2005 Kia Spectra5 - (M5)

    Pros: look of the car

Cons: how the car shakes on the freeway

Advice: don't buy if you want a smooth traveling car

Car steering wheel shakes bad from 68 and up, the dealership had car for a total of 19 days. They have replaced tires, wheels, had factor rep test drove my car, and now they are saying this is the way the car drives. When I bought the car they knew about shake and told me it would be fixed under factor warranty, not to worry. They kept the car and tried to fix the shaking problem, but now they are saying that it is just the way the car is designed. The service manager is now stating that they are no longer allowed to make anymore attempts to work on this problem as per the factory rep. They stated that it was only me who has complained about this shaking problem and that I was too sensitive of a driver. They say that all the cars do this, which is why this is as they say, this is the way the car was designed. I would not have bought this car if this was the case. They did get the car to stop shaking for a 24 hour period on 2 different times.

    2005 Kia Spectra5 - (M5)

    Pros: 205/50/16s

    Cons: front lip

Advice: Buy it, you will love it.

Great car with a lot more get up and go han I expected. Great suspension and a sporty look. The only thing I don't like is that front lip was very very poorly attached to the car. I have read that quite a few people have had some problems and I have too. I gave it a little scuff on a speedbump going about 5 mph and one side of it came off. BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO SCRAPE IT AT ALL.

    2005 Kia Spectra5 - (M5)

Pros: Value vs. price. Safety !! 4wheel disc, ABS, 6 airbags

    Cons: Fuel Mileage

Advice: Don't, Why buy a small car when you get the mpg of a small SUV

Everything about this vehicle is great, EXCEPT the fuel mileage. 21-22 around town and 24 on the freeway. I'm a conservative driver who has driven economy cars for many years now and am very disapointed. Of course the dealership thinks this is the first car I've ever driven and explains that it's all how you drive it and that I don't know how to drive. All of the other features are great if fuel mileage doesn't matter.

    2005 Kia Spectra5 - (M5)

Pros: Smooth ride, not much road noise, and stereo

    Cons: Front Effects

Advice: Get something in writing on the front effects. My wife went through some running water and effects came off.

I truly like the ride of the vehicle and the stereo system. The lines of the vehicle are a lot nicer than the other vehicles I've driven. I bought the automatic and it shifts nicely. I live in the north west and I would definitely would make sure you watch your front effects trim. I only have 1200 miles on the vehicle and the trim has come off. I've contacted KIA and the regional manager won't replace it due to some scuffs on the bottom. I've had more than 20 cars and I'm truly disappointed with the fact that KIA won't replace it. There's obviously something wrong with this piece of equipment. Other vehicle reviews have already given notice to this problem and I believe this should be corrected or taken off all together
