The EPA grades for the 2015 Kia Soul EV include a 93-mile all-electric driving range that is the longest for any EV in the country except for the Tesla Model S—which remains in a class by itself with a standard 208-mile range rating for all-electric travel. Of course, while the 2015 Kia Soul EV has less than half the range of the Model S, its price also is less than half that of the Model S: With an MSRP of $33,700, customers will be able to drive a 2015 Kia Soul EV for about $26,200 when the federal tax credit is taken into account, and a number of states offer additional local incentives, too.

As a result, the new EV-range leaderboard in this country looks like this:

  • Tesla Model S—208 miles
  • 2015 Kia Soul EV—93 miles
  • VW e-Golf—Not yet rated, but with Volkswagen targeting an "average range between 70-90 miles"
  • Fiat 500e—87 miles
  • Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive—87 miles
  • Nissan LEAF—84 miles
  • Chevy Spark EV—82 miles
  • Honda Fit EV—82 miles
  • BMW i3—81 miles
  • Ford Focus Electric—76 miles
  • Smart fortwo electric drive—68 miles
  • Mitsubishi i-MiEV—62 miles
