The 2014 Cadenza is a new full-size sedan from Kia, slotted atop the automaker’s lineup and equipped to compete against models like the Buick LaCrosse, Chevrolet Impala, Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Ford Taurus, Hyundai Azera, Nissan Maxima, and Toyota Avalon.
Model Lineup:
Kia makes it easy to buy a new Cadenza. A single level of specification is offered, and buyers upgrade by choosing from three available option packages.
Standard equipment includes dual-zone automatic climate control, leather seats, a 10-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, UVO (Your Voice) eServices technology with Bluetooth hands-free calling and music streaming, a navigation system, a premium audio system, and a keyless passive entry system with push-button engine starting. A set of 18-inch aluminum wheels also comes standard, along with automatic headlights, fog lights, heated side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, and rear parking assist sensors.
Optional Equipment:
A Luxury Package is offered for the Cadenza, adding premium leather seats, heated front and rear seats, a heated power tilt/telescopic steering wheel, and ventilation for the driver’s seat, which also receives an extending thigh support adjuster. Additionally, this package has active HID headlights, a panoramic sunroof, a power rear window sunshade, and an upgraded gauge display.
A Technology Package can be added to models that already have the Luxury Package. It contains 19-inch aluminum wheels along with a blind-spot information system, a lane departure warning system, and an adaptive cruise control system.
A White Interior Package is available for Cadenzas with the Luxury and Technology option packages. It adds white leather seats, simulated wood trim, and synthetic suede covering the headliner and roof pillar covers.
Engines and Transmissions:
A 293-horsepower, 3.3-liter V-6 engine is standard in every Cadenza. A 6-speed Sportmatic automatic transmission with a manual shift gate delivers the power to the car’s front wheels.
Fuel Economy Ratings:
The Cadenza’s fuel economy rating is 22 mpg in combined driving. In the city, the EPA says to expect 19 mpg, while the highway rating is 28 mpg.
Safety Ratings:
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the new Cadenza receives the highest rating of “Good” for its performance in moderate offset frontal-impact, side-impact, and roof crush strength crash tests.
As this summary is published, the IIHS has not assessed the Cadenza’s performance in the rear-impact injury prevention test, or in the new small overlap frontal-impact test. Similarly, the new Cadenza has not been crash-tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as this summary is written.
