Go kart racing has always been a popular way to make the first foray into motorsports. For a lot of people, karting is a lot more accessible than other types of racing, especially since there are indoor karting facilities all across the country. K1 Speed is one company that offers indoor karting in a wide variety of locations, and this company also offers a race school. Autobytel went to the K1 Speed indoor karting track in Irvine, CA, to see how it all works. The K1 Speed Race School features professional driver Patricio Jourdain, who explained some of the key karting basics. Children and adults are both welcome at the K1 Speed Race School, and Patricio says that anyone can learn how to race in karts. However, the school asks that any kids who sign up have had some experience driving a kart before, so that everyone on the track will be safe. Classes are offered at both basic and advanced levels. The basic racing class, targeted toward kids, covers safety, driving the kart, choosing the lines through the course, and how to brake. The advanced class covers more racing concepts in detail, such as starting, passing, weight transfer, and strategy.
