Changes for the 2013 Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Wrangler Unlimited:

The 2013 Jeep Wrangler and its four-doored sibling—the 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited—continue to show plenty of marketplace momentum, and that’s partly because they continue to see a steady stream of upgrades and special editions—both of which are in the spotlight for the current model year. For example, drivers can now choose a second, more premium soft-top design in addition to the traditional fabric unit, for a more refined environment with the cabin closed, and there’s a redesigned “easy-lift” mechanism that makes it easier to open, too.

Other upgrades include redesigned, more supportive seats for both front and rear rows, enhanced interior illumination with LED map lights, a tire-pressure-monitoring system that provides data for all four tires individually, and, for audiophiles, a premium speaker setup with Alpine components.

Shoppers also should keep their eyes open for three special-edition 2013 Jeep Wranglers, including the Freedom edition, Wrangler Moab, and 10th Anniversary Wrangler Rubicon.

Model Lineup:

With each available in both hard- and soft-top configurations, the three models offered on the 2013 Jeep Wrangler roster are:

2013 Jeep Wrangler Sport—The Wrangler comes ready to rock crawl straight from the factory, with the entry Sport model equipped with standard Sunrider soft top (with sunroof panel), CommandTrac four-wheel drive, Dana front and rear axles, and multiple skid plates and tow hooks.  On the other hand, the 2013 Jeep Wrangler Sport also offers notable comforts that include ambient interior lighting, a six-speaker audio system, and steering-wheel audio controls.

2013 Jeep Wrangler Sahara—The content list grows nicely in this Sahara and adds tubular side steps, 18-inch wheels with a new and exclusive design, a body-color soft top, air conditioning, the Alpine audio upgrade (including Alpine speakers, subwoofer and 368-watt amplifier), leather-wrapped steering wheel with cruise and audio controls, power locks/windows/heated outside mirrors, and silver accents both inside and out.

2013 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon—The hardest of the hard-core choices is the Rubicon, wearing 17-inch wheels and BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tires, an enhanced Rock-Trac 4wd setup, rock rails, an upgraded Dana 44 heavy-duty front axle (matching the Wrangler-standard Dana 44 rear axle), front and rear electronic axle lockers, Tru-Lok front and rear differentials with electronic remote locking, and, also up front, an electronic sway-bar disconnect system that greatly improves articulation.

As mentioned, three Special Edition 2013 Jeep Wranglers also are in the mix: The 2013 Jeep Wrangler Freedom edition honors those who serve their country with a unique appearance package, the 2013 Jeep Wrangler Moab adds more off-road capability and exclusive style to the Sahara model, and a 10th Anniversary edition of the 2013 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon fine-tunes the Rubicon recipe to deliver “the most capable production vehicle ever” according to Jeep.

Engines and Transmissions:

Beneath the hood of each and every 2013 Jeep Wrangler is the multiple-award-winning Pentastar V6 engine, capable of transforming 3.6 liters of displacement into 285 hp and 260 lb.-ft. of torque. The Pentastar can then be paired with either a standard six-speed manual transmission or an available five-speed automatic.

Fuel Economy Ratings:

The 2013 Jeep Wrangler can achieve EPA grades of 17 mpg city/21 mpg highway/18 mpg combined with either transmission, while the bigger 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited posts fuel-economy scores of 16 mpg city/20 mpg highway/18 mpg combined, again regardless of transmission.

Safety Ratings:

Neither the 2013 Jeep Wrangler nor the 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited have been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Wrangler duo achieved “Good” grades in the moderate-overlap front crash test from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Technology Highlights:

In addition to all of the standard and available off-road technology found in the 2013 Jeep Wrangler, the lineup also offers tech fare like a Uconnect system with Voice Command, Bluetooth functionality, 28- and 40-gig hard drives, a 6.5-inch touchscreen, and enhanced and GPS-based navigation.
