I enjoy this vehicle
Pros: memory seat for two drivers and dual climate control
Cons: having to remove the rear headrest to fold down the seatThis is my second Grand Cherokee and fourth Chrysler based product. I love the Grand Cherokee design but the ride and durability make owning it a dream. Yes it's 17 MPG average is hard to swallow these days but every time I press on the gas and it instantly responds reminds me of why I love it. The only mechanical problems I have had have been the window belt breaking which was easily fixed.
Pros: Had comfortable seats
Cons: Always something going wrong with it.
Advice: ( Don't Buy) Chrysler doesn't stand behind there autos., they should have taken care of all the brake problems.Had to have the brakes replaced at 5000 miles, replaced rear differential at 10,000 miles, brakes went bad again at 12,000 miles they wouldn't replace, only turn rotors and replace pads,at my expense,24,000 miles had to have brakes repaired again,at my expense, had to replace drivers seat heater strips at 35,000 miles, passenger side of heater quit working at 36,500 miles is now out of warrenty would have cost $600.00 to repair, THIS IS TIME TO TRADE OFF, bought a new Buick Rainier, have 20,000 miles on it with no problems.
Pros: Comfortable seats.
Cons: Rough idle and poor intown fuel mileage.
Advice: Don't buy 2003 or 2004 V8 engine model. This is my 4th Jeep Grand Cherokee w/V8 engine and my last. Loved this car the first 12,000 miles. Major problem started with rough engine idle. Have had it now worked on at three different dealers and no solution. Was told by last service manager that this problem started with 2003 V8 models. Engine idles too slow. I was told by service manager that engine computer starts to reset itself after first 5000 miles to meet EPA guidelines. Runs good when you buy it but loosy later. Deceptive selling by Chrysler. Watch out for this problem. NO REPAIR AVAILABLE.
Cons: Major engine problems, a/c problems, heater problems, etc. etc.
Advice: Do not keep over 60,000 miles.I like the way the Jeep drives. It is my 5th Jeep. Do not let a jeep get over 60,000 miles because the engine requires major money. I would recommend getting the extended warranty if you want to keep one more than 2 years.
Pros: Looks- it gives you the 'I am jeep' impression.
Cons: Seatbelt buckle sticking out- had an accident w/ behind one time and it hurts.
Advice: Nice SUV, good price. Never seen so many old ones on the road, that means people are keeping them.I had always wanted a nice, smooth ride SUV, tried toyota 4-runner, too bumpy, nissan-pathfinder, too loud engine, for-explorer, same thing. Then Jeep, bought it Sept '04, and love it. Smooth ride, you can feel the suspension taking the shocks from the potholes and gives you the floating kinda feeling. I like the power though it's a 6 cylinder. Gas-wise,trip computer says about 15 miles/gallon-still breaking in. Not bad. Comfortable seating, nice sound system, too little knobs on the stereo though. Aside from that- just totally love it. Also I like the complimentary Parka, don't know if everybody got it- Columbia edition owners.
Pros: Seat/Mirror/Pedal memory, Heated mirrors
Cons: Sunroof Vent is loud, CD Changer in back (not in-dash)
Advice: I've heard that I'll need an extended warranty after the 3yr/36,000mi one runs outI bought my Lmtd 4WD V8 this weekend and LOVE it!! The seats are really comfortable. The interior is well laid out, with everything well within reach. The sunroof is incredibly quiet when open - unless you pop the vent while driving then it's loud. I'm still breaking the engine in, but have felt the torque on a few occasions already and can't wait to really test it in the mtns. Also really liked new 4Runners but couldn't stomach the payment (Toyota won't budge on the price). Pilot and Pathfinder don't compare. With the $3500 cash rebate and some negotiation, this was $100/month easier on my wallet and I think just as good a vehicle for my needs.
Cons: The constant engine problems
Advice: Run, run very fast AWAY from a Jeep. DO NOT PURCHASE A JEEP!Purchased new in December 2003. Problems started January 04. The check engine light came on. I was told by dealership to check to make sure the gas cap fit tightly? Duh? Well it was fine. Next I took the vehicle into the dealership. They said it was some coding issue. They said they redid the codes and all was fine. For two days. Then it came on again. This time they had to change out the thermostat as it was stuck open. This repair lasted three weeks to the day when the light came on again. I again took the vehicle into the dealership, Milam Jeep in Puyallup, WA. This time I was told that they found a substance inside the engine like sand! I was told this was from the casting of the engine and poor quality control resulted in this engine being assembled with this sand on the inside of the engine. It ruined the engine, the thermostat, all water hoses and the radiator. Jeep refuses to replace the vehicle with a new one. I am told that I can have a new engine and radiator, hoses, etc., other than that, forget it. Milam cries they are the middle man and not responsible, even when I tell them they sell them, they are the agent for Jeep. Milam refuses to step up and take responsibility. A friend who is a service manager for a ford dealership in Everett, WA said that his dealership would have done that and replaced the vehicle. They would have put a new engine in it and made it a fleet vehicle. I am stuck now with a vehicle that I am afraid of and will never buy again. My wife and I had waited 10 years to buy a Cherokee, now we are stuck with a dud. I will never buy from the cheep Jeep people again. Milam Jeep stinks. Their general manager is a cry baby who refuses to take responsibility.
