Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: great ride and mileage
Cons: rear and right rear quarter vision
Advice: I enjoy mine, I think most small SUV drivers wouldThe CVT took some getting used to, but now I wouldn't go for anything else.I like the 'Rubbermaid' interior, it's easy to maintain and i suspect will outlast the exterior surfaces.
Pros: Spacious comfortable interior, handsome styling and versatile all around car
Cons: Slightly limited rear view, but this is not a problem if you turn your head which you should anyway.
Advice: Buy it!I bought the Compass new 6 months ago and could not be happier, have already put over 17k miles on it. I work on a forest fire lookout up in the mountains and wanted something with just a little more clearance that would handle the rough roads but still be great for town & highway. Mine is a manual 5 speed and from the day I drove it off the lot consistently has gotten 27-30mpg, even on the mountain roads. It is ideal for someone who needs a moderate SUV that is a great all around car but also handles the bad roads. A lot of early reviews slammed the Compass saying it was not a real Jeep because it could not rock crawl. Baloney! This is a very affordable well built vehicle without a lot of unnecessary fluff and Jeep was smart to tap this market. Complaints about the interior were also exxagerated, comparing it to a Rubbermaid tote. Nonsense! Yes, the dash, door panels etc are a hard plastic, but it is tight, actually looks much better than just plastic and very easy to clean so even if you transport kids, pets, food, or go out in the woods you can wipe it off and keep it looking brand new. I drove a Plymouth Sundance for 16 years which stood up to the rough roads way better than many vehicles built for that; but I needed a little more clearance and 4x4. The Compass is perfect - handles and maneuvers as easily as the Sundance which is a small car, and since I was already used to a small car, the slightly bigger 2.4 litre engine provides plenty of power. It also gives a really nice smooth ride even on the rough mountain roads, and handles great in snow. Every oil change and checkup shows it in perfect condition though with 17k miles in 6 mos including rough roads, city, freeway, it has had way more than every use and responded well in every condition. No complaints or problems. It is also a great looking vehicle, I get many compliments (love the Marine Blue Pearl color!). Interior VERY comfortable and spacious. I like the slightly different styling, a refreshing change from the boring ugly square box look of almost every other SUV.
Pros: FOLD DOWN SEATS!!!
Cons: Bad blind spots from rear corners, due to smaller rear corner windows. But the large side mirrors make up for it.
Advice: Fun and Compact, Mine is a 2wd and I love it, I didnt need 4x4. Also gets excelent Gas milage. The overall handling is outstanding, drives like a car and has tons of room. I was very impressed with the CVT transmission.....NO SHIFT SHOCK. I recommend this to anyone with kids. Very versitile, and very comfortable. Very well priced. Im proud to say I own a Compass.
Pros: seat comfort and the blue tooth
Cons: Back head rests obstruct my view
Advice: Good value. Fully loaded this vehicle was very close in price to the base of hybrids in the same class.Very comfortable, very spacious and a great value for the money. In addition to automatic transmission the vehicle came eqquipped with GPS, Satellite radio, a 6 CD player, 9 speakers, blue tooth, garage door opener, security system and a sunroof. I'm really enjoying all the extras. Only complaint is the rear seat head rests obstruct my view in the rear view mirror. Pick up could be a tad better, but so far has not been an issue and was expected with a f cylinder engine. Gas mileage is great and the 13.5 gallon tank is a lot easier on the wallet than my previous Jeep Cherokee Sport.
Pros: Satelite Radio, Leather Seats,Headlights
Cons: Pickup Speed
Advice: Buy it!!!!I own it just brought it about a month ago. I have been to GA in it twice already, yes putting the miles on it!!! It is beautiful and VERY SPACIOUS! I don't have any kids but I would recommend this for a stylish family suv and it is very reasonable, given the gas prices these days. Go ahead and buy this baby you won't regret it!!
Pros: cute but that only goes so far
Cons: noises, dealer unable to fix so they blow me off ,after buying 3 vehicles there
Advice: don't buy itI have had my Compass to our local dealer several times and they can't fix it. There is a whine in the steering, whine in the engine and it rattles very badly sometimes when putting into reverse. I think it is put together very cheap. I think the resale value is going to hurt everyone because of this.I would NEVER buy again. For the same $$ buy a Honda CRV.
