Jeep Freedom Drive 4x4 System

Jeep’s Freedom Drive four-wheel-drive system is used on its compact sport utility vehicles, including the Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot. The system is available in two variations: Freedom Drive I™, and Freedom Drive II™. The Jeep Compass is not available with the Freedom Drive II system, and is the only Jeep vehicle not Trail Rated® at this time.

Freedom Drive I is a full-time electronically controlled four-wheel-drive system with locking mode. It is not designed for off-road use and Freedom Drive I equipped Jeep vehicles are not Trail Rated. The Freedom Drive I has snow, rain, and other low-traction conditions in mind. The locking mode is a low-range mode intended for use at speeds under 10-mph.

The optional Freedom Drive II™ system bumps the 2007 Jeep Patriot up to Trail Rated capability. The Freedom Drive II adds an off-road four-wheel drive mode, traction control, optimized engine and transmission performance for rock crawling, hill descent control, brake lock differentials, disc antilock brakes, 19:1 crawl ratio, 1” of additional ground clearance, heavy-duty cooling, skid plates, tow hooks, fog lamps, and additional body sealing which provides 19 inches of water fording capability.
