IIHS Recognizes 2015 Acura TLX with Top Safety Pick+ Honor

Joining the RLX flagship sedan and MDX three-row premium crossover, the 2015 Acura TLX midsize sport sedan has earned Top Safety Pick+ certification from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS). As a result, Acura now boasts more vehicles with that honor than any other lux brand in the U.S. marketplace.

Looking at the 2015 Acura TLX, the car turned in "good" grades—the highest available—in testing for moderate-overlap front impacts, side impacts, rollover roof strength, and head restraint and seat performance; in the notoriously hard-to-pass small-overlap front-impact test, the 2015 Acura TLX received an "acceptable" rating. Additionally, the IIHS has begun evaluating vehicles' front-crash prevention technologies, and here the 2015 Acura TLX also received the highest possible rating of "Superior" (when equipped with all available safety features).

Which doesn't seem to surprise Mat Hargett, chief engineer for the 2015 Acura TLX. According to him: "Our goal in developing TLX was to contribute to Acura's unmatched safety leadership in the luxury segment as part of an exceptional all-around luxury driving experience. The TLX utilizes a highly advanced body construction plus the latest in safety and driver-assistive technologies to provide occupant protection that is unmatched in the segment."

For example, the robust body structure of the 2015 Acura TLX showcases a one-piece, hot-stamped door-stiffener ring, made of steel, to help handle a wide range of potential impacts. Then, owners also gain access to the full portfolio of Acura's camera- and radar-enabled driver-assistance measures, highlighted by:

• Rear cross-traffic monitoring
• Road departure mitigation
• Adaptive cruise control
• Collision mitigation braking
• Forward collision warning
• Lane departure warning
• Lane keeping assist
• Blind-spot information
• A multi-angle rear-view camera system with dynamic guidelines 

It's also worth noting that the 2015 Acura TLX has gotten out of the gate in fine fashion, posting 4,890 sales during its first October on the market. Now, that may not seem like a lot of deliveries, but in October it was enough to out-sell every individual car offered by Audi, Cadillac, Infiniti or Buick.
