Cons: Driver's sun visor arm broke after 2.5 years of use--I've never seen a car's visor give out. And it was $279 to replace it!!!
Advice: GET ONE!! If you're in the market for a compact or mid-size SUV, this one is the best in the class. But I hear the new Tucson is nearly the same vehicle as the Santa Fe and that in 2006, they plan to redesign the Santa Fe to add a 3rd row of seating.I purchased this vehicle in November 2002, my first SUV purchase ever after having test driven all others in its class, and to this day, I still LOVE this vehicle!!! I'm up to 87,000 miles already (yes, I live on the road) and I couldn't be happier with the ride, the storage, the comfort, the reliability, and the looks of this vehicle. It will be a sad departure when I pay it off and finally get a convertible. But maybe by then Hyundai will have on in the states--if they do, I'm definitely going to remain a Hyundai customer.
Pros: It's nice looking.
Cons: Loud noise from top.
Advice: reconsiderI purchased my Santa Fe in July of 2002. About 2 months after purchasing our Santa Fe we started hearing a LOUD whaling noise from the top of the car when travelling at higher speeds. The noise is sparratic and tends to happen more often in dry windy conditions. It's now about a year and half later and my suv has been in and out of the local service center over 20 times and the noise is still present. I have filed 2 complaints with the BBB and my Hyundai is still not fixed. About 6 months ago I was offered 'a couple of car payments' reimbursement for lost use of my vehicle (which I turned down for fear that it was only to shut me up so that they could close the complaint again). Other problems include a pesky check engine light (FIXED) and paint chipping from the inner part of the doors (fixed, but chipping again) Other than the above problems, the Santa Fe drives decent and looks nice. It's a good thing it comes with a long warranty... You'll need it.
Cons: TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO SLIP EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE
Advice: BEWARE OF MANUFACTURE INTEREST RATES IF YOU FINANCE THROUGH HYUNDAII PURCHASED A 2002 SANTE FE 6 CYLINDER 1 YEAR AGO. GREAT PRICE, COMFORT, GAS MILEAGE. BETTER THAN THE TRACKER THAT I GOT RID OF. ALSO DOES NOT HAVE THAT TIPPY FEELING ON CORNERS. WOULD BUY AGAIN.
Pros: Auto door locks
Advice: If your looking a any compact SUVs you need to drive this one (V6)Smooth ride for a compact/midsized suv. The size for the price is a major plus.
Pros: Automatic doors and space
Cons: Liked everything
Advice: Buy it. Very good warrantyThis past weekend, I began shopping around for an SUV. One that I would feel comfortable in. I test drove three. First the Santa Fe and I must say I was impressed. I was comfortable. I felt like I was driving a car. I was impressed with what came standard in the vehicle that would be considered adding options. The ride was smooth and not not only was it a 2 cylinder, but it was automatic. WOW!! I also test drove the Xterra. No comment. Let's say I was not impressed. Lastly I took the Ford Escape for a test drive. It was okay. I immediatly compared the Sante Fe to the Escape. Guess what? THe Sante Fe has my vote and I am looking to purchase it.
Pros: Tinted Windows - Cuts down on headlight glare from other vehicles headlightglare into rear view mirror during late night highway driving.
Cons: Same treatment not on side rear view mirrors and placement of the seat belt buckle on drivers side for ample figured bodies
Advice: If you live in or near the city and will be doing most of your driving there, the V6 front wheel drive is the one to go with.I told myself five years ago, my next vehicle would be an SUV. I wanted something not too big, and not too small. I first stopped by a dealer ship after seeing a Santa Fe driving by me on the road. The size, the shape, everything was perfect. It seemed to have clasic lines which would be stylish for years to come, yet a great vehicle for taking care of errands, and being able to bring home all those things that make a house a home or going out to a formal affair. After my test drive, I was in love and purchased the Santa Fe of my dreams one month later after careful research of all the other SUV's I had considered.
Pros: tons of standard features, bang for your buck
Cons: engine needs more horses
Advice: if you like the looksvery smooth, drives like a car. engine is a bit underpowered. hyundai should have put the engine in the xg350. like the shifttronic manu-matic option. handling is good. got the fwd since the 4wd is too underpowered already.
