How to Restore Oxidized Hazy Headlights — Meguiar’s Car Care Tips

Over time, glass can get hazy and discolored, and one of the places that’s most apparent is on your car’s headlights. It’s easy to see how that can happen, if you think about it. On the inside, the glass is subjected to high intensity light. On the outside, it’s subject to weather and road debris. Yellowed headlights make your car look older than it is, and that’s reason alone to put time and effort into cleaning them. But did you know that hazy headlight glass is also a safety hazard? When your headlights aren’t clear, the output of light gets significantly diminished. It happens so gradually that it’s hard to tell sometimes, but you’ll see the difference once your lights are cleaned up. The latest video in the Autobytel and Meguiar’s car care series will show you how to do just that. Headlight restoration kits offer some variety. There are mild options for lights that are only starting to become hazy. If you don’t think your lights are at a crisis point yet, go with this option, since you want to avoid being too aggressive with your glass. For heavily yellowed lights, go with a heavy duty kit. A few quick steps, as described in this video by Meguiar’s Mike Pennington, and your path will be illuminated once again.
