Rear-facing car seats are a wise choice for new born babies and John Stubbs, safety expert with Safety Belt Safe USA, says it's the safest way for babies and toddlers to travel. This is because of the nature of a frontal crash and the lessened impact of the child's head when not facing forward.

After installing the seat's base in the middle back seat position with a seat belt, Stubbs shows how to test whether the seat base is set by making sure the base cannot move more than one inch in any direction. 

Stubbs mentions that the seats are crash-tested with an inch of play after installation and every seat has to pass the Federal Government Safety Standard 213 before being sold to the public.
