The 2015 Honda Fit is completely redesigned, larger inside, more powerful, more fuel-efficient, and more technologically advanced. Honda offers the new 2015 Fit in LX, EX, and EX-L trim levels, and prices range from $15,525 for a base Fit LX to $20,800 for a loaded Fit EX-L with navigation and more. Prices do not include a destination charge.

Honda characterizes the 2015 Fit model’s exterior styling as “Crossfade Monoform” design. OK. To my eyes, it still looks like a doorstop, but with sharper edges than before. Aerodynamics are improved over the previous Fit, and Honda installs underbody panels to help smooth airflow beneath the car. The results are better gas mileage and, to some degree, a quieter interior

The 2015 Honda Fit is all grown up inside, equipped with improved materials rendered in more mature textures, tones, and forms. The previous version of the Fit always reminded its driver that it was inexpensive and that it was aimed at a youthful buyer. Those days are over.

Honda has also improved front seat comfort. The driver’s seat offers a greater range of adjustment than the previous model, and leather upholstery comes standard in the 2015 Fit EX-L models. More seat track travel would be appreciated, though, as drivers with inseams of more than 33 inches are likely to feel crammed into the car.

Thanks to a stretched wheelbase, a slight gain in width, and a redesigned center-mounted fuel tank, the 2015 Honda Fit adds nearly 5 cubic-feet of passenger space. Most of that is donated to the rear seat, where the new Fit provides 4.8 inches of additional legroom compared to the previous model.

Honda says the 2015 Fit provides 16.6 cu.-ft. of cargo space behind the rear seat. Fold the seat down, and this entry-level car swallows 52.7 cu.-ft. of cargo, nearly as much stuff as some compact crossover suvs. The rear Magic Seat design also allows the Fit to carry tall items upright within the rear passenger compartment, and the fold-flat front seats make it possible to carry a surfboard or to transform the Fit into the equivalent of a hard-shelled camping tent.

Every 2015 Honda Fit is equipped with a new EarthDreams 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine making 130 horsepower. A new 6-speed manual gearbox is standard for the Fit LX and EX models, with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) optional. The CVT is standard for the Fit EX-L. The EPA says a Fit with a CVT should get 36 mpg in combined driving. I effortlessly achieved 34.5 mpg. Had I driven with the Econ mode engaged, and with more judicious application of the accelerator, the Fit would have gotten even more miles per gallon.

Since the very first U.S.-specification Honda Fit arrived for the 2007 model year, Consumer Reports has given the car a single negative rating, and that was for climate system performance when the redesigned 2009 Fit debuted. J.D. Power has also favorably rated the Fit for quality and dependability over the years. Given this track record, the Honda Fit has clearly proven itself as essentially bulletproof.

As this photo gallery is created, the redesigned 2015 Honda Fit has not been subjected to crash tests. However, Honda has constructed the car around its Advanced Compatibility Engineering II (ACE II) body structure, which is designed to perform well in the tough new small overlap frontal-impact crash test devised by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

In addition to ACE II body structure design, standard safety features for the 2015 Honda Fit include SmartVent front-seat side-impact airbags, an expanded-view driver’s side mirror that displays vehicles that are in the car’s left blind spot, and a reversing camera with normal, panoramic, and aerial viewing modes. Get the Fit EX, and Honda installs its LaneWatch camera technology to monitor the car’s right blind spot, as well as HondaLink Assist service that can automatically summon emergency rescuers following an airbag deployment.

The 2015 Honda Fit EX and EX-L models are equipped with a standard 7-inch Display Audio system that is modeled upon tablet computers. Users can tap, swipe, pinch, and spread content on the screen, can pair a smartphone using the HondaLink system, and can use Siri Eyes Free technology when an iPhone is paired to the car. Through HondaLink, Fit owners can run navigation and social media applications, as well as access Aha Radio features.
