Guide to Car Polish — Meguiar’s Car Care Series Step 3 of 5

Polishing your car is an important step in the car care process. It’s not the same as cleaning or washing, because polishing has its own unique benefits when it comes to perfecting your car’s finish. Polishing compounds are designed to create a high gloss on a paint finish. When you’re out shopping for polishing products, you might see similar products on the shelf called glazes, which will also give the desired results. This is the latest video in Autobytel’s series on car care, hosted by Meguiar’s, and it’ll explain and demonstrate how to use a polish to restore your car’s finish to a nice high gloss. The host of this video, Meguiar’s Mike Pennington, explains that polishing is a lot more important if your car is a dark color, because the polishing step helps create a lot of depth and reflectivity in the finish. It’s one of the secrets of car show competitors, and the effect on the car’s finish can be compared to using a lotion on your skin. If your car happens to be a light color, the polishing process won’t be quite as beneficial; however, polishing a light colored car certainly won’t hurt.
