Changes for the 2013 GMC Sierra 1500 Hybrid:

The only hybrid-powered pickup truck sold today, aside from its corporate twin over at the Chevy dealership, the 2013 GMC Sierra Hybrid can be painted in new Sonoma Red or Heritage Blue colors this year. There are no other updates for this, the Sierra Hybrid’s final year of production.

Model Lineup:

When buying a 2013 GMC Sierra Hybrid, which is offered only in a Crew Cab body style, consumers select between rear-wheel and 4-wheel drive and the enticingly named 3HA and 3HB trim levels.

You just know them good ole boys are braggin’ about their 3HB models down at the local bar every Friday night, now don’t you? That’s because the Sierra Hybrid 3HB adds leather, power front seats, power adjustable pedals, navigation, and a premium sound system. Additional upgrades include rear parking assist sensors, a reversing camera, a universal garage door opener, power folding exterior mirrors with auto-dimming glass on the driver’s side, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a hard tonneau cover over the cargo bed.

Engines and Transmissions:

The Two-Mode gas/electric hybrid powertrain installed in the GMC Sierra Hybrid combines a 6.0-liter V-8 engine, a 300-volt nickel-metal hydride battery pack, and an Electrically Variable Transmission (EVT) producing a combined 332 horsepower at 5,100 rpm and 367 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,100 rpm. A “full hybrid,” the Sierra Hybrid can accelerate up to 30 mph on battery juice alone, and the truck also includes an automatic stop/start system and Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation technology helps to further conserve fuel. The Sierra Hybrid can be optioned with 4-wheel drive, and tows up to 6,100 lbs.

Fuel Economy Ratings:

According to the EPA, the 2013 Sierra Hybrid is rated to return 20 mpg in the city, 23 mpg on the highway, and 21 mpg in combined driving whether or not it has the optional 4-wheel-drive system.

Safety Ratings:

In crash tests performed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Sierra Hybrid provides 4-star protection in a collision. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gives the Sierra a “Good” rating for frontal-impact protection levels, “Acceptable” ratings for side- and rear-impact collision protection, and a “Marginal” roof crush strength rating. The truck was not assessed in the new small overlap frontal-impact test introduced by the IIHS in 2013.

Technology Highlights:

Aside from its gas-electric hybrid powertrain, the 2013 Sierra Hybrid can be outfitted with a touchscreen navigation system, a premium audio system, power adjustable pedals, a power sunroof, rear parking assist sensors, and a reversing camera.
