The 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV is an all-electric SUV that marks the second vehicle to debut as a part of the new Hummer. This isn’t the Hummer of old, but a whole new brand within GMC that is purely electric.

It takes all the capability and luxury of the original Hummer and gives it an update with a thoroughly modern look along with losing the gas engine in favor of being electric. It’s an impressive vehicle with a long list of features. Here are the 10 best features of the 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV.

Impressive Horsepower

There is no shortage of horsepower in the GMC Hummer EV SUV. Base trims have 625 horsepower with 7,400 lb-ft of torque. That sounds like a lot, but top trims take those numbers up to 830 horsepower with 11,500 lb-ft of torque. That’s an incredible amount of power no matter which trim you choose.

Press on the accelerator and, despite its size, this SUV moves. It easily gets up to highway speeds without hesitation and passes slower vehicles with no effort at all. If you put a priority on performance, then this SUV will not disappoint.

Watts to Freedom

This isn’t something you’re going to use every day, but when you do have the chance, it’s a ridiculous amount of fun. It’s intended for use only on a closed course, so don’t be attempting this at a stoplight. Watts to Freedom (WTF) is the Hummer EV SUV’s launch control that unleashes the vehicle’s full power all at once.

It takes you from 0-60 mph in about 3.5 seconds with aggressive acceleration that pushes you back in your seat. A steady hand on the wheel is required to control all that power, which is why this is a fun feature for closed courses only.

Infinity Roof

The interior of the Hummer EV is open and airy with plenty of room for five people, but if you want a true open-air experience, then there’s the Infinity Roof. This glass roof has four removable Sky Panels that pop out quickly and easily. They look heavy, but they are easily removable by one person.

You can remove them anytime you like because the frunk of the Hummer EV SUV easily holds all four panels securely and safely. It’s a fun feature that lets you choose to either have the full roof or whatever combination of the four panels you choose.

Massive 13.4-inch Infotainment Touchscreen

Everything is big in the Hummer EV SUV, including the infotainment screen. It’s 13.4 inches and runs horizontally across the dashboard. The system is easy to use and has all they key features you want including smartphone connectivity via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

It uses the Unreal Engine, which is what makes the graphics you see in video games. This allows for some impressive cutscenes as you switch between drive modes. It’s a fun feature that adds a little something extra and helps make the Hummer EV SUV feel even more like a luxury vehicle.

Super Cruise

Although we don’t yet have self-driving cars, we do have increasingly helpful drive assistance technologies. Super Cruise is one of those technologies. It allows for completely handsfree driving on over 200,000 miles of highway in North America. The system maintains speed, adjusting as needed to the ebb and flow of traffic.

It also steers, keeping the car within its lane as you travel down the highway. It can even automatically change lanes to go around slower cars. This makes road trips easier on the driver, but it’s not self-driving. The driver does still need to pay attention and be ready to take over driving at any time.

CrabWalk

If you get yourself into a tight spot off-road, or even just need to navigate something tricky when there’s pavement, then CrabWalk is here to help. This unique feature lets the Hummer EV SUV drive the way a crab walks sideways across the sand.

Instead of going in a straight line, it moves to the side diagonally. It looks almost like the SUV is sliding, but it’s truly just driving sideways. Especially if you plan to traverse more challenging terrain, CrabWalk is a feature that can help you get out of tight spots with ease.

Extract Mode

No one plans to get stuck in the muck when they off-road, but sometimes the terrain can surprise you. If you’re off-roading in the Hummer EV SUV and the terrain gets more rugged than expected, then Extract Mode can make it easier by raising the ride height by around six inches. It uses the air suspension to do this and it only takes a few seconds.

If there are larger rocks or fallen tree limbs, this can make getting over them less challenging. If you live where there’s heavy snow, it’s also a great trick when the roads aren’t plowed or you need to get through that snowbank at the end of your driveway.

Range That Keeps You Going

No matter which trim of the Hummer EV SUV you choose, it has plenty of range to get you through your day with anywhere from 250 to 300 miles per charge. That’s far less that one most of us drive in a typical day, but when the drive is longer, that range helps you get where you need to go with fewer stops.

The Hummer EV also charges quickly when you do stop. It can use DC fast charging, which gives it about 100 mile of range in just 14 minutes. In only 55 minutes, you can take the battery from 10 to 80 percent.

Extreme Off-Road Package

There are lots of features in the Hummer EV SUV that off-road enthusiasts will love. These include standard four-wheel drive, CrabWalk, and Extract Mode. Those features make it quite capable along with good approach and departure angles and a turning radius of just 35.4 feet.

There’s also an available Extreme Off-Road package. It has 18-inch wheels, 35-inch mud terrain tires, a front e-locker, rear virtual locker, five skid plates, and rock sliders with bult-in steps. If off-roading is a regular part of your plans, this package is a great addition.

Power Swing Gate

This is not a small vehicle. Everything about it is big and that includes the tailgate. Rather than opening upwards like most SUVs, this one swings open to the right. That makes it easier to manage, but it’s still heavy, so GMC made it a power swing gate that opens at the touch of a button.

Simply push a button just to the left of the swing gate and it wings open for easy access. Push that same button and it closes right back up so loading and loading your Hummer EV SUV is quick and easy.
