Sits Between The MP4-12C and P1
And then there were three.
McLaren Automotive has revealed the 650S before its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month. The 650S will slot in between the MP4-12C and the P1 supercar.
The 650S is based on the 12C and incorporates a number of improvements to make it more exciting. Think of the 650S as being akin to Ferrari’s 458 Speciale and Lamborghini’s Gallardo Squadra Corse as they turn the performance wick.
The changes begin on the exterior as the 650S borrows a lot from the P1. The front end gains a better integrated front splitter and LED headlights. Around back, the 650S gets a new rear bumper that takes its inspiration from the 12C GT3 racer. Other exterior changes include new door blades, a rear wing that improves downforce at speed, and five-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in special Pirelli P Zero Corsa MC1 rubber.
Powering the 650S is a retuned version of the 3.8L twin-turbo V8 that makes 650 metric horsepower, or 641 horsepower by our standards. Power is fed to the rear-wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. There have been changes to the brakes, suspension, and a number of weight savings mods throughout the vehicle as well.
We'll have more details, including performance figures, when the 650S debuts next month.
