Ford has come up with a clever system to keep police officers safe when they are parked and sitting in their vehicles. Surveillance mode, which is available on the 2014 Police Interceptor sedan and utility vehicle, uses existing driver-assist technologies – a backup camera, cross-traffic alert and reverse park assist – to help monitor what's going on behind the vehicle and provide a first line of defense against potential assailants. The system can be turned on and off, depending on where the officer is parked and how many people are in the area.

“I can tell you from personal experience at night that officer security is a critical concern. Unfortunately, there are people with bad intentions who sneak up on police officers. This system builds upon the Ford Police Interceptor DNA that puts safety and security at the top of the list," said Randy Freiburger, Ford police and ambulance fleet supervisor, and the brains behind this new feature.
