The 2012 Ford Focus receives a full redesign that brings a much more stylish and competitive vehicle to the affordable compact market. The result is a vehicle that is more attractive, fun to drive and fuel-efficient than its predecessor. Keep reading to learn what's new on the 2012 Ford Focus and review specs, features and pricing.

Styling: 2012 Ford Focus

For 2012, the Ford Focus is available in two body styles – sedan and hatchback. Both designs offer a rounded, slightly sporty design. However, the hatchback is clearly the sportier model, making it a good choice for those who are willing to sacrifice rear passenger comfort in exchange for a flashier silhouette.

Inside, the Focus receives upgrades that result in bolstered quality and comfort. Front passengers will likely find few things to quibble about. However, rear seats may be a bit cramped for larger passengers. Maximum cargo capacity for the hatchback is listed at 44.8 cubic feet. The sedan's trunk delivers 13.2 cubic feet of storage. These numbers are average for the compact vehicle class.

Also new for the 2012 model year is an all-electric model. The Focus Electric is only available as a four-door hatchback.

Performance: 2012 Ford Focus

The standard power plant for the 2012 Focus is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that makes 160 horsepower and 146 lb-ft. of torque. At its best, this engine delivers 28 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway (on SFE models). In comparison, last year's model topped out at 25 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway.

For the most part, reviewers find the Ford Focus to be fairly nimble. However, a few competitors, such as the 2012 Mazda Mazda3, may be a better option for those looking to get a sport-themed compact.

Focus Electric models receive a 92-kilowatt electric drive motor. This engine is slightly more powerful than the 2012 Nissan LEAF. Driving range with this engine is estimated at 100 miles (though actual performance will vary).
