Love this car!
Pros: increased horsepower over the 7.3 L
Cons: Nothing to dislike!
Advice: By it quick-they stopped producing them in 2005
It has the ride and feel of a heavy vehicle and the elevated seats gives a very good view of everything around you.Pros: The size--it is a beast!
Cons: No TV stations on entertainment system
Advice: Buy it--get the Diesel
I love my Excursion! Bought the 2003 with the 6.0 turbodiesel. I get 23-25 mpg highway and around 18 mpg city. A truly awesome SUV. My wife is about 5'4' and she loves it as well. She is able to see the traffic nuts around her and make adjustments before the nutty DC drivers get too close. A perfect vehicle for a growing family.Pros: towing capability
Cons: brakes
Advice: don't overlook the diesel engine option !
If you need to carry lots of people and/or stuff AND tow something BIG, buy this vehicle(get the diesel engine). We have owned a 1992, 1996 & 2001 Ford E 150 Chateau. They served us well for hauling 7 people & lots of stuff & towed our 20 ft. boat. However, we recently bought a larger boat (8000 lbs). I wanted 4WD (for steep launch ramps) + a diesel engine & an enclosed cargo area. The Excursion seemed like the only vehicle to meet all those needs. The diesel engine pulls STRONG & gets good mileage. The disk brakes seem over worked. The Excursion weighs twice as much as my BMW, yet the brake rotors are the same diameter. The Ex rides great, A/C cools quickly, 6 disk CD sounds awesome. The tow mirrors have a very useful wide-angle mirror below the main mirror. The overall look of the Ex ( and all the Ford Super Duty trucks) is badass, especially in black!Pros: so much room, and great for trips
Cons: squeaky brakes due to brake dust, and to big to detail myself, lol
Advice: don't buy a truck like this and complain about gas later, you should know ahead what your getting into.
for 3 small kids all in car seats this was really the only vehicle that could accomidate all the car seats and still leave me seating room for others to sit. the only vehicle, and i measured them all that could fit 3 in a row, in the rear seat. i am 115 lbs and 5'2 and i drive this thing with no problem, i see fine and with the help of the rear sensors its easy to back up and park. it is high, but the kids climb in fine with runnung boards. gorgeous interior, great stereo, and drives nice for a truck. of course gas sucks, but i knew that when buying a 10cyl suv.Pros: 20 foot long
Cons: braking
Advice: power stroke diesel engine only!
gret suv, getting about 15-17 mpg it handles like a dream and is fast. this truck can tow anything.Pros: The diesel combined with usable space to do anything. And the smile on my face when I drive it.
Cons: It wanders a little on the highway.
Advice: Get a loaded 2 wd, install swaybars and drive it.
I'm almost 60, I've owned over 72 cars and trucks from Corvettes to Porsches to Volvos and this is one of the nicest all-round vehicles I've had. It gets 17.6 mpg of cheap diesel averaged over 24,600 miles. It has room for what I do, but not too much. It feels much smaller and drives good, albeit not perfect. I had two new Fords in the 70's and 80's and they were junk, this third one is a charm. The diesel is faster to 95 than most sedans and surprises many. It handles fair now that I installed HD swaybars. It rides good, but not great. I sold my 2000 Cad Seville STS and wanted a diesel Surburban, but GM says 'no', their loss, my gain. The EX may not be a plush (and I have the top of the line), but it's 5x the vehicle than a Surburban in any other way. We're now a two diesel family and love the mpg and the lack of maintenance since combined we put over 60,000 miles a year on our vehicles.
