Sport Truck With 3.5L EcoBoost V6
For a time, Ford was a major player in the sport truck market with the F-150 Lightning. Built between 1993-1995 for the first-generation, and 1999-2004 for the second-generation, the Lightning packed a big, brawny V8 engine and a number of changes to the chassis to make it one of the meanest trucks on the road. Since 2004, Ford hasn't been a major player in the class. People have been clamoring for another Lightning, but alas Lightning only appears to strike twice in Ford's lineup. That doesn't mean Ford hasn't forgotten about it though.
This morning, Ford pulled the covers off the new 2014 F-150 Tremor. Much like the Lightning, the Tremor is packing a lot power, but not from a V8 engine. Instead, the Tremor is packing Ford's 3.5L Twin-Turbo EcoBoost V6 with 365 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic is the sole transmission and is paired with a locking rear differential with a 4.10:1 ratio to help improve acceleration. Two-wheel drive is standard, while four-wheel drive is optional.
Outside, the F-150 Tremor only comes in the regular cab configuration and has a number of cosmetic changes. Those changes include bodyside stripes, black exterior badging with red lettering, black tubular running boards, and twenty-inch wheels dipped in flat black paint. Inside, the Tremor gets a low-through center console, black leather bucket seats with red accent piping, metal dash accents, and MyFordTouch.
“The new Tremor gives F-150 customers yet another option to drive a highly capable, distinctive performance truck with features typically found only in the aftermarket,” said Brian Bell, F-150 product marketing manager.
Ford hasn't revealed pricing for the 2014 F-150 Tremor, but we should find out soon as the company says the Tremor will go on sale in the fall.
