Yellow 2015 Mustang 305 horsepower for the new 2.7L EcoBoost turbo-four

Since the 2015 Ford Mustang was shown late last year, the automaker has been very quiet on how much power their engines make. Recently, the blue oval finally decided to spill the beans with the revelation of horsepower and torque figures for all three engines.

Originally, Ford ballparked figures of more than 305 horsepower for the new 2.7L EcoBoost turbo-four and more than 420 horsepower for the 5.0L V8 engine. The official numbers aren't too far off. The new 2.7 EcoBoost produces 310 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque. The 5.0L V8 makes an impressive 435 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque.

The base 3.7L V6 sees a slight decrease in power for the 2015 model. Originally making 305 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, the 3.7 now makes 300 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. The reduction in horsepower is to most likely give the EcoBoost some breathing room.

Another mystery that has been hanging around since Ford announced the new Mustang is how much it weighs. Ford has released that information as well and the 2015 model is slightly heavier across the line:

  • 2015 Mustang V6 w/six-speed manual: 3,526 lbs (Up 30 lbs from 2014 model)
  • 2015 Mustang V6 w/six-speed automatic: 3,530 lbs (Up 12 lbs from 2014 model)
  • 2015 Mustang EcoBoost w/six-speed manual: 3,532 lbs
  • 2015 Mustang EcoBoost w/six-speed automatic: 3,524 lbs
  • 2015 Mustang V8 w/six-speed manual: 3,705 lbs (Up 87 lbs from 2014 model)
  • 2015 Mustang V8 w/six-speed automatic: 3,729 lbs (Up 54 lbs from 2014 model)

Along with the announcement of power ratings and weights, Ford also divulged information related to the Performance Package available on the EcoBoost and V8 models. For both models, the package adds revised springs, new bushings, monotube rear dampers, a beefier rear anti-roll bar, a K-brace under the hood, and upgraded cooling for the engine.


Each model also brings their own unique additions to the performance package. The EcoBoost Performance Package comes with larger brakes (13.9-inch rotors with four-piston, aluminum fixed-brake calipers for the front: 13-inch rotors with single-piston, iron brake calipers), 3.55:1 axle ratio, nineteen-inch alloy wheels, and Pirelli 255/40R19 Y-speed-rated tires.

For the GT Performance Package, Ford adds six-piston Brembo brakes with 15-inch rotors, a 3.73:1 rear axle ratio, Torsen differential, larger 275/40R19 Pirelli tires for the rear, strut-tower brace, and a unique front splitter.

The 2015 Ford Mustang goes on sale later this year.
