The Nissan NV200 Taxi of Tomorrow looks like it has competition now. Yesterday at the 2013 International Association of Transportation Regulators Conference in St. Louis, MO, Ford introduced the 2014 Transit Connect Taxi. The Transit Connect Taxi comes with a 2.5L four-cylinder engine paired to a six-speed transmission. Ford claims the Transit Connect Taxi is the only model that can run on compressed natural gas/liquefied petroleum gas thanks to an optional engine prep package. The Transit Connect Taxi also comes with a twist-beam rear suspension which helps in passenger comfort and cargo space.
Compared to the outgoing Transit Connect, the new Transit Connect Taxi is longer and offers seating for five with increased cargo capacity (60.5 cubic feet of space). The floor has been lowered to help improve access in and out of the cabin. The floor lowering also allows the Transit Connect Taxi to be modified for wheelchair access.
“The new Transit Connect Taxi has been designed with the for-hire transportation driver and their passengers in mind, creating a product that combines stylish looks and improved comfort with legendary Built Ford Tough quality,” said Gerald Koss, Ford's fleet marketing manager.
The Transit Connect Taxi arrives at Ford dealers early next year.
