Formed Back In 2011 To Create A Hybrid System For Trucks and SUVs
Yesterday, Ford and Toyota announced that they are ending their partnership to develop a hybrid system for pickups and SUVs. The two originally announced plans to jointly develop a system that would go on sale later in this decade. Despite dissolving the partnership, the two plan to go at alone.
"We have agreed to develop hybrid systems individually. Toyota and Ford continue to evaluate the feasibility of working together on next-generation standards for telematics and will consider other areas for future collaboration as well," said Toyota in a statement.
"Following the conclusion of a collaboration with Toyota, Ford is moving forward with the development of a rear-wheel-drive hybrid system on its own; Ford is on track to have the hybrid system ready later this decade on rear-wheel-drive Ford pickups and SUVs," Ford said in a statement.
