Expect 2014 VW Passat Sport Early This Year

Already offering 12 different models/trim levels, the 2014 VW Passat will soon make it a baker’s dozen by introducing a new treat up near the top of the line. The 2014 VW Passat Sport will slot in between the SE and SEL trims with an MSRP that starts at $27,295, while showcasing a number of cues from the 2013 Passat Performance Concept.

Distinguishing the exterior of the 2014 VW Passat Sport will be features like a rear spoler, fog lights, and 19-inch wheels in Volkswagen’s “Luxor” design, and there’s a notable cabin upgrade in-store for owners as well. The unique interior includes “sport comfort” seating along with aluminum sport pedals and carbon accents, complemented by stainless-steel door sills and Sport-specific floor mats. Drivers will able to order the 2014 VW Passat Sport in three exterior colors: Candy White and Tungsten Silver with a black roof and mirror caps, and, exclusive to the Sport model, a Urano Gray finish.

Then, these enhancements are bolstered by all the standard content of the 2014 VW Passat SE, highlighted by:

• Volkswagen’s Car-Net connectivity technology
• Premium touchscreen audio with HD radio
• Automatic headlights
• Rearview camera
• Heated front seats
• A leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel

Providing the motivation in the 2014 VW Passat Sport will be the automaker’s new 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine. Despite its compact proportions, that powerplant can deliver a robust 170 hp and 184 lb.-ft. of torque, thanks to turbocharging and direct injection. A five-speed manual transmission is standard, with a six-speed automatic available for an additional $1,200.

Assuming the Sport model retains the same EPA marks as the “regular” 2014 VW Passat with its 1.8-liter engine, fuel-economy grades for the new entry would be up to 24 mpg city/35 mpg highway/28 mpg combined with the DIY gearbox and 24/34/28 with the automatic.
